April 27, 200620 yr Realizing this may start another round of debate and afford another opportunity for the haters to drag out their tired and silly conspiracy theories, I thought this deserved to be posted here. For the second time in two days (yesterday on Fat Hank's show and now in the SS) Beinfest goes on the record about what conversations he's had with Minaya since the first of the year. Hopefully this will put this debate to rest. Willis for Mets' Wright? Wrong! Marlins deny making trade proposal By Juan C. Rodriguez South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted April 27 2006 CHICAGO -- General Manager Admin Beinfest isn't one to comment on trade rumors. The absurdity of this one was enough to prompt him to address it. A Newsday article this week claimed the Marlins called the Mets to offer them Dontrelle Willis for third baseman David Wright. The report suggested Mets General Manager Omar Minaya dismissed the offer without taking it to ownership. Before Wednesday's game, Beinfest echoed owner Jeffrey Loria's denial that such a deal was proposed. "What gnaws at me in this instance is the phone call was never made," Beinfest said. "I've talked to Omar three times since New Year's. Once because of a rainout in spring training, the second to check on the availability of a minor league player and after the rainout at Shea Stadium." On two occasions Loria has quashed speculation that Willis and Miguel Cabrera are on the block. The two are making a combined $4.724 million this season. Both are arbitration-eligible after 2006 and should see their combined income increase to about $14 million in 2007. CENTER CITY The Marlins started reserve infielder Alfredo Amezaga in center field Wednesday. Amezaga, who used one of former Angels teammate Vladimir Guerrero's gloves, had not appeared anywhere other than second, short and third in the big leagues. He did play some outfield in the minors and has been taking fly balls there. In the eighth, Amezaga moved from center to left field and made his only putout on a Todd Walker liner. "You can play him in a lot of different spots, and that's what he's going to have to do," said manager Joe Girardi, who batted Amezaga second and dropped Dan Uggla to sixth. "He can do some things with the bat. He gives us some different options at the top of the order." Girardi told Uggla not to view the shift in the batting order as a demotion. For this game he wanted to use him in more of a run-producing capacity. Girardi said he would consider keeping Uggla in the No. 2 hole and moving Jeremy Hermida to the middle of the order when he returns. WAITING GAME Girardi did not rule out Hermida beginning a rehab assignment this weekend, but it could be next week before he is ready to test his strained hip flexor. Eligible to come off the disabled list Friday, Hermida has missed 13 games. "It's not as quickly as we would have liked, but you have to remain patient and make sure he's healthy before we send him back out there," Girardi said. "I know it's not as quick as he would like. He's a little miserable. The leg didn't respond the way he wanted it to." FIRST IN THE NINTH Nineteen games into the season, the Marlins scored their first ninth-inning run Wednesday. The left-handed hitting Mike Jacobs singled off left-hander Scott Eyre to drive in Cabrera, who reached on a one-out walk. Before Wednesday, the Marlins had been outscored 7-0 in the ninth. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...-sports-marlins

April 27, 200620 yr hmm.....has beinfest ever denied trading a player-besides delgado & lowell-and then gone ahead and trade him
April 27, 200620 yr yeah but I don't know if you can *really* bring up the Lowell/Delgado trades. The Lowell rumors with the Cubs was during our championship run, and Delgado was two years later during the season. I don't think at that point anyone foresaw a firesale up ahead. Also, I like the idea of Hermida coming back more to the bottom of the lineup. Uggla's been solid at 2, and we really need help near the middle. I like that move.

April 27, 200620 yr Beinfest word is better then Loria's. uggla seems more fit to be in the 2 spot in the lineup now and hermida should hitting 5th with jacobs right behind him or maybe even olivo.
