War Genre

Featured Replies

Alright, here's how this thing works. Later on in this post you will see the name of the movies nominated in this specific genre. They are presented in order by how many nominations they received, and then subsequently in order alphabetically when tied with the same number of votes. The number of nominations appears in parenthesis next to the movie title (with those not having a number receiving one nomination). Number of nominations was only the number of mentions the movie received in this specific genre.

Now, with that out of the way, here's the process. Simply look at the movie list and post your own list from the list of movies on the nomination list that you believe everyone, no matter what, must see. Feel free to poke fun, argue with, or ask for explanations from other users who may post lists. The point is to draw a general consensus on which movies should be viewed by everyone. If I see a movie that's getting a lot of issue over with more than one poster on each side of the debate, I'll post up a poll and have everyone speak specifically in that topic about that movie. Now, with all that out of the way, here's the list:

A lot of these nominations were kind of weird. I think we have a war movie junkie among us. Anyway, here are my must sees from the list above:

Saving Private Ryan

Platoon

Apocalypse: Now

The Deer Hunter

Three Kings

Braveheart

Das Boot

Stalag 17

.....

No Patton?!?

No Patton?!?

Not from me. I really should watch it again, but I remember being underwhelmed. I would still recommend it, but definitely not a must see for me.

Patton is as much a great character study as it is a war movie.

George Patton is one of the most interesting and remarkable characters in American History. And he is probably one of the 3 greatest generals in our nation's history as well.

No Patton?!?

Not from me. I really should watch it again, but I remember being underwhelmed. I would still recommend it, but definitely not a must see for me.I think you should. Personally, I'd rule it as the best movie on this list.

Saving Private Ryan

Apocalypse Now

Patton

Braveheart

The Last of the Mohicans

Das Boot

Until about this time tomorrow the movies that aren't on there yet will get a chance. If one or two votes come in between now and then, I'll give it until Mother's Day.

Full Metal Jacket

Das Boot

The Thin Red Line

Tora! Tora! Tora! :(

Well, it's all said and done. Thanks to JJ, Glory and Black Hawk Down both got the number of votes necessary to get placed on The List. Full Metal Jacket and Das Boot both ended up missing out by just one vote, but still a pretty healthy list from the War Genre. Saving Private Ryan was a juggernaut, appearing in all but three lists.

On The List (votes)

Saving Private Ryan (12)

Braveheart (9)

Apocalypse: Now (9)

Patton (9)

Platoon (8)

Glory (7)

Black Hawk Down (7)
