FSN launches "The Final Score"

FSN to Launch Sports Show

John Consoli

JUNE 05, 2006 -

Taking direct aim at ESPN's SportsCenter, FSN on July 3 will be premiering a nightly 30-minuute national sports highlights show, called Final Score, which will air across its network of 21 regional sports channels.

In announcing the new show, executive producer Rick Jaffe took a swipe at SportsCenter: "Unlike the vast sea of sports highlights shows, where the hosts have become the centerpiece rather than the highlights, and where content has been infused with extraneous commentary, Final Score will offer fans nothing but highlights."

The show will feature a revolving lineup of hosts, rather than regular hosts, so that the highlights are key to the show, rather than the hosts, Jaffe said. The show will air in its regular, live period Monday through Friday at 11:30 p.m. locally, with Saturday's show at 10:30 p.m. and Sunday's show at 9 p.m. Repeats will then air throughout the night and the following day.

Here is the official Press Release from FOX back in May.

FSN LAUNCHES NIGHTLY SPORTS HIGHLIGHT SHOW: THE FSN FINAL SCORE

Former Los Angeles Times Executive Sports Editor Rick Jaffe Serves as Executive Producer

Are you one of the millions of sports fans across the country longing for a simple, fast-paced national sports highlight show? If you are, then THE FSN FINAL SCORE is for you.

Intended to serve as a supplement to the network's locally produced information programs, such as FSN LIVE, pre- and post-game shows and the regional sports reports, FINAL SCORE allows viewers to quickly catch up on major events from across the country. The nightly 30-minute show, which premieres on Monday, July 3, features a revolving line-up of hosts, ensuring the highlights remain the focus of the show.

Hosts include former FSN West anchors Van Earl Wright and Barry LeBrock, Fox Sports Radio personality and FSN analyst Andrew Siciliano, KNX 1070 personality and former local FOX anchor Randy Kerdoon and TVG Interactive Horseracing anchor Greg Wolf.

FINAL SCORE airs nightly Monday to Friday at 11:30 p.m. local, with Saturday episodes airing at 10:30 p.m. local and Sunday episodes airing at 9 p.m. local. Repeats air throughout the night and following day. Former Los Angeles Times Executive Sports Editor Rick Jaffe, who has been with Fox for six years, serves as the show's executive producer.

Said Jaffe: "Unlike the vast sea of sports highlights shows, where the hosts have become the centerpiece rather than the highlights and where content has been infused with extraneous commentary, FINAL SCORE offers fans precisely what they are looking for: Very simply, nothing but highlights."

During Jaffe's 11 years at the Times, his department earned more awards for writing and design than any sports section in the country. In 2000, he joined the FOX family, where he was responsible for all editorial and creative content of Foxsports.com, working to enhance on-air and online integration.

In 2001, Jaffe was named Managing Editor/Executive Producer at FSN, a role he still maintains. In this position, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of production for many of the network's signature shows including FSN Pro Football Preview, CMI: The Chris Myers Interview and Totally Football, among others.

In addition to the Times, Jaffe spent five years with the Chicago Sun-Times, first as Assistant Managing Sports Editor, then as Deputy Managing Sports Editor; three years with the Atlanta Journal & Constitution as Assistant Sports Editor and Graphics Editor; three years with the Detroit News as Assistant Sports Editor; and six years as the Assistant Sports Editor for the Orlando Sentinel.

What a bad name for a show. Way too generic and brings nothing to the table.

They might as well call it "Buttsecks"

Way too generic and brings nothing to the table.

From what is described that is what it will be..generic and only highlights with little analysis it seems.

I think it's a great idea.....I'll definately watch.....I've found myself watching less and less sportscenter.

I like the sportscenter hosts.

I don't know what happened to Linda Cohn, but i've been watching more and more SportsCenter ever since she's been gone.

See, if I were ESPN, I would combat this by doing the same thing but having it be 24 hours. They could constantly update the highlights all day, and people could go to this hypothetical channel anytime for live updates of highlights of whats making news in the sports world. In fact, they could call it ESPN News. I know it sounds crazy guys, but I think the idea has potential

There's nothing wrong with compitition in the market place, but what they should do is stop allowing espn to use their feeds then FSN would be the only place you could find highlights for alot of the baseball teams, but espn would probably like that too much since they could then pretty much show only Yanks and Red Sox all day long.

The allowance for highlight sharing is fine. Exclusive highlights for normal games would be detrimental.

i actually started an anti-espn thread on finheaven and its getting a lot of posts so check that out over there if you want. but i was just at my parents house visiting and found myself watching a lot of CSS, they have a sports talk show with 3 main hosts and a revolving guest where they discuss a lot of college football, but also pro sports and other college sports (coll baseball which i love). espn shows more poker, pool, spelling bees, horse races and tennis for my liking. mix in the outdoors sh*t and sports reporters (what year did mitch get his hair cut?) and the station is unwatchable. they took the classic games to a pay channel, they took the college sports to a pay channel, nfl stole their stuff for a pay channel, basically, if i want anything that isnt "obscure sports weekly" i have to pay out the ass.

  • 4 weeks later...

It's on right now.......It's alright so far but the screen is too cluttered.....I like the Rundown but the headlines above aren't needed....anyone else watching?

take one of your pictures for those not watching....

this host is massively lame.
