June 10, 200620 yr My favorite language in the entire world. You don't have to know the definition of whats being said to know what it means! My friend, whose father went to a Yeshiva, and I always carry some inside jokes in Yiddish, he having the greater grasp of the language then I. Now what is more of the question is what is a Schmeckl? :mischief
June 10, 200620 yr Author Now what is more of the question is what is a Schmeckl? mischief.gif A small schmuck- not that Jewish men know the meaning of this phrase....... My people are well endowed.

June 10, 200620 yr I'm used to calling people schmuck and schmoe all the time. Atleast now I have an idea about what they really mean :mischief
June 11, 200620 yr Back home in Boston (OK, a 'burb called Newton), we had neighbors who were wacko Catholics...weren't too happy that JEWS were living next door (confirmed by friends of mine who were Catholic and had to go to the CCD classes they taught...they told me in school; they didn't dare tell me while the wackos were around). To piss them off, my mother would talk to our dog in Yiddish...drove them nuts :evil Of course, the punch line now is that my wife's maiden name begins with O'C Getting back to the subject line.. Bush (W or The Jebmeister) Huizenga Steinbrenner (in his case, momzer can definitely apply) Jack Thompson Any FCC Commissioner Limbaugh Michael Savage (Jews like him could make me become atheist..wait, I essentially am!) My list of schmucks is endless...

June 13, 200620 yr Author penis. And I know some yiddish words, but I've never actually heard someone speak Yiddish as a language. Schmata, putz, oy vey, oy gevalt, verklempt (sp) My mom and her sister used to carry on conversations when they didn't want us kids to know what they were talking about. There's a guy at my school who is fluent.
June 13, 200620 yr Hmm why did I think it's facacta. Although I've heard it said many times, and I've seen it written a few times but never knew if it was written right.
June 14, 200620 yr I've grown up surrounded by Jews, so I inevitably end up using some Yiddish in certain situations.
June 14, 200620 yr My wife is a Irish shikse from Long Island (we're a reversal...I'm the Jewish kid from Boston; she's the Irish girl from LI) but she looks more Jewish than me...she grew up with Jews. When my mother first met her, she didn't believe she wasn't Jewish She knows a few words...comes in handy when cussing at a redneck who can't drive...
June 14, 200620 yr Author There's so many facacta words You mean verkockte words.... Both spellings are correct. Since the origins of Yiddish are partly Hebrew and Hebrew has it's own alphabetical characters, it's all transliterated anyway. I've seen lots of different ways of writing some Yiddish words. Same thing goes for Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and any other language that doesn't use the Latin or Roman alphabet symbols. It's a whole megillah anyway.........
