Posted June 21, 200618 yr Simple... Can the find contend for the Wild Card? For some reason, the majority of people keep saying it's a pipe dream--even now. What I want to know is how you can be so nonchallant about a team that has 95 more chances to make up 6 games. There are still 15 games until the HALFWAY POINT in the season, and Florida is the hottest team around. All this stuff about 'rookies hitting the wall' is as cliche as they come. Don't use that as your only excuse as to why we'll drop off.
June 21, 200618 yr I have no doubt we'll continue to play well the next few months. But I do fear what will happen down the stretch. Most of the guys in our line-up and pitching staff aren't used to playing into September. Then again they're all young so they could be more energized, it's really hard to tell which way it will go. But that's the #1 factor IMO, how they will handle playing a full season.
June 21, 200618 yr We might stick around a little while, but in the end, we won't be contending. Right now, these guys are playing way above their heads, and you've gotta think they'll come down to earth soon. Eventually, the pitchers will hit a bump in the road, and we'll go on a losing streak for a little while. HOMER, we may have 95 games to make up six, but the other teams have 95 games to widen that lead. I'm not trying to take the wind out of everyone's sails, but this hot trend isn't going to continue for the rest of the year. Do I wish it would? Yes. Am I pulling for these guys to get the Wild Card slot? Absolutely. But I don't think they will. On the bright side, I don't think they'll lose 100 games like I thought.

June 21, 200618 yr Ever since Jim Rone was saying on his radio show that the Royals and Marlins could break the record for most losses in the regular season we have been playing great. I believe we can and will contend for the wild card down the stretch.

June 22, 200618 yr I'd still be absolutely shocked if they finished within even 10 games of the Wild Card winner at the end of the season, but I'm rooting for them and love watching this team. The future is bright.
