July 14, 200619 yr I think that it's more like 4 miles away, southwest. Coming from anywhere in Dade-Broward-Palm Beach it can't possibly mean more than an extra 10 minutes at most. And for many it's all of 5-10 minutes closer. There are some here who I think are confused about what is commomly referred to as the Florida Turnpike, and what is referred to as the Turnpike extension. The proposed site is 5-10 minutes closer for fans from the Kendall area via the turnpike extension. For fans from the North, the proposed site will be accesible via the Turnpike extension, which you pick up right next to the present site, or via I-75. Anyway you look at it, it's no big deal time difference for anyone from North or South. Even from Miami Beach I think it's maybe 2 minutes further away. They had an article complete with map in the Palm beach Post not long ago on exactly the property they are discussing. The reporter actually drove the route taking the turnpike extension. He said it isn't more than 10 minutes further. Also it was stated they will be building entrance/exit ramps directly into the new pond. I don't know anything about Hialeah's supposed reputation but this completely takes that out of the equation. Especially trying to convince us that getting off the highway and driving through downtown Miami at night to a place with no available parking is better than this plan?? Are you trying to convince us there is no crime in downtown miami at night?? Now, being PBC residents and season ticket holders we don't find this to be that much of an inconveience added onto our already lengthy travel to and from the ball park. Any other PBC residents that I have talked to feel the same way so I don't see, as one poster said, the marlins will be "mortgaging PBC residents" at all. The way I see it is that South Dade had their shot and blew it. The Marlins have coddled that community since Day One and have been rewarded with zilch. Time to move on and if that means mortgaging the South dade community, then that dosen't appear to be much of a loss.
July 14, 200619 yr How the hell do you figure they have coddled to "South Dade"? Boca is a lot closer to DS than 104st sw and 107 ave in Kendall. I dont know where you get off saying that South Dade had their shot. Had their shot at what? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about.

I dont know where you get off saying that South Dade had their shot. Had their shot at what? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Most everything the Marlins have done has been to attract South Dade residents; from the expansion draft on. For instance, Destrade was drafted over Big Cat and that was exactly the reason given for that choice. "A South Dade resident that will put fans in the ball park." That worked out fine, didn't it. South Dade just blew it big time with Miami's City manager getting a little too involved and lost their opportunity to have the new pond built next to the OB. Need I continue??? Who cares about Boca?? You are talking about the southern most place in PBC. Most PBC residents actually feel it is more Broward than PBC and wouldn't even mind if it was. It's an attitude thing. Maybe you don't realize PBC is the second largest county in Florida.(See if you can figure what the largest one is and by how much) There is an entire county to the north and west of Boca. Heck, compared to Miami-Dade County area-wise, almost 2 counties to the north and west of Boca It takes me longer to get out of PBC from where I live than it takes to get to the ball park from the Broward/PBC line. And it's not just PBC. We have fans going to the games from Martin and St Lucie Counties as well. To quote you..."You obviously have no clue what you are talking about." Pretty mute point anyways. If the place is going to get built this is probably where it will happen. South Dade residents want to say it is too far so they won't go? Fine. They say that now anyways. So throw your tantrums. Like I said: you had your shot. If I had my optimum choice it would be built in PBC. Let people that live close to Joe Robbie see what we have been dealing with for all these years. I always put the offer foreward to those that think they have it bad now. Stay at my place for one home stand and travel with me to and from the games. See just how good you have it now. Not surprisingly, South Dade residents always ignore that invitation. So I'm not twisting or ignoring facts. Just dealing with reality. Try that sometime.
July 16, 200619 yr you left out brevard county...i wish it would be in broward or palm beach county..BUT,i certainly don`t want them to leave florida..
July 16, 200619 yr Dont lecture me about how far the stadium is from Martin and St Lucie. I lived in St Lucie for 2 years and my parents live there full time. I spend quite a bit of time there. The only thing you dont realize is that the team was granted to South Florida because of MIAMI. With out Miami there is no Marlins, plain and simple. This team was never and I mean never pampered to "South Dade" residents. If Orestes Destrade is your only example you need to start digging buddy. Look at the Panthers basically ignoring South Dade, gee they are top 10 in attendence arent they. More people live in Southwest Miami Dade county than anywhere else in Miami Dade county. Excuse the politicians to try and get a site where public transportation was available to most people in Miami Dade county. The current location off of the FLorida Turnpike and I-75 is an adequate site. The site is accessible from the south in Kendall and Southwest Miami Dade, its accessible from all of Western Broward which one of the fastest growing communities in South Florida and from WPB. Stop coplaining cause I dont see WPB or Broward or Martin or St Lucie counties offering money to build a stadium, the only county and city Miami Dade and Hialeah. Until than you should live in reality.

LOL Destrade isn't my only example, just the very first. I have neither the time nor the need to show every way the Marlins have pampered South Dade residents only to have their face slapped for their efforts. Get over yourself already. Show me where I am complaining about where they are now or where they are hopefully moving to. Quite the contrary. We are season ticket holders that drive over an hour each way. We were even willing to keep our tickets for at least one season to check out the feasability of attending games if the new pond was built next to the Orange Bowl. Thank goodness you guys blew that opportunity. I have been backing where they want it now. Not once have I complained about building it in Hialeah. Let me repeat that so you can't ignore it as easily this time. NOT ONCE. Long time season ticket holders that actually go to the games and never complain. How's that for living in reality?
August 22, 200619 yr No concerns, but I would prefer to see it in downtown Miami. I prefer to live in cities with most cultural and sports venues in the central business district....
August 22, 200619 yr to answer your question...the reason this topic is MOOT! is cause the City of Miami is not in the equation so the downtown land isn't even being considered...selig will accept a stadium where ever he gets one....the fact is that as of this moment, he/MLB is not giving a penny to the project...so a stadium will get built where it can be built...plust the fact that downtown Miami has no more room to accomodate a stadium....the area that was Bicentennial Park has already been pledged for a library or something...so that is other words is why this topic is moot..... for all marlin fans, they need to realize that at this point it is Hialeah or bust....bust being the team eventually moving.... Care to revisit your opinion after the Herald story today ? "Granted to South Florida because of Miami" LOL Funny stuff. South Dade is really filling that place up right now aren't they. Actually the people ignoring the Marlins are the Broward County residents. Dolphin Stadium is 15-20 minutes away from most Broward residents, but more than 1 hours time away from at least 1/2 or more of Miami-Dade residents. We gave the Broward folks a chance, and they failed the Marlins. Now its time to build the stadium more accessable to Miami-Dade residents and see what happens.
