Juan Pierre's renaissance

Featured Replies

Since Dusty Baker instructed groundskeepers to trim the infield grass in early June, Pierre has hit .327 at Wrigley Field. A vast improvement on the .213 he had been hitting.

Cubs manager Dusty Baker made a major decision this week on improving the infield.

... It was the lowering of the infield grass at Wrigley Field. Asked Wednesday about a rumor he had asked the grounds crew to shorten the length of the infield grass, Baker replied, "It's already been mowed."

Infield grass

Some of the infield grass from Wrigley that grew as high as possible until mid-June, along with some of the infield grass that was cut much shorter to help get Juan Pierre back on track. The idea worked ? better late than never.

You would think that would have the opposite effect.

Only if he's bunting. If he's hitting normally, the faster playing surface would help him. Still, any move that Dusty Baker makes will somehow ultimately come back to haunt him.

Infield hits can also be (and IME typically are) the groundball to deep short for example. Or the one that causes the second baseman to dive and throw from his knees, or perhaps across his body.

Good for Juan.

I'd still bring him back...

so would I. i miss JP :(

I miss that Pierre -Castillo one two punch in the lineup it was just fun to watch
