July 28, 200620 yr Kensing has struggled with the 8th and Tankersley has been tough on both righties and lefties. Why not make Tankersley the 8th inning guy? He's earned it.
July 28, 200620 yr By the sounds of Girardi's comments in the Herald (don't have the link handy), it sounds as if the guys will be rotated around and they haven't settled on a strictly 7th, 8th inning guy permanently.
July 29, 200620 yr seems like we need more then a 1 run lead to give Kensing the ball in the 8th right now. So my pick is Tank for the 8th and Kensing for the 7th.
July 29, 200620 yr Tank has been phenomenal this year. Kensing's been good, his numbers don't reflect that. He pitched well earlier this year and has had some bad outings that have shot his ERA up. Tank's stuff is better so I think he should be our 8th inning guy and our closer of the future.
July 29, 200620 yr Girardi only puts the pitcher he believes he feels comfortable with. As for Tankersley, Kensing, and Messenger should be put in the setup role. That won't happen this season, did you hear about the Carlos Lee deal, the Rangers accepted offense over pitching. If Matt Herges chooses to retire in a season or two for age or ability to play. Tankersley is going to be that pitcher to fill in Herges shoes, Tankersley is much better then Kensing and Messenger whereas these two players have been around the Marlins clubhouse and not have stepped up that he is a setup or a closer type of pitcher. The Marlins take second place alone in the National League East, we past all of our NL East rivals, some say who was going to be the Braves, some say the Phillys, and some even say the Nat's. :cool Kensing and Messenger :thumbdown
July 29, 200620 yr Tankersley's not always going to be available for every 8th inning we need him. He may be needed in the 6th or 7th inning. Kensing and him are different types of pitchers. It's best to utilize them by the game situation, not the inning.

July 29, 200620 yr I want Tank to close, but getting him more innings is perfectly fine by me. I think the next step would be to see how he handles 2 innings of work in important situations.

Then send him back down to the minors. The fact Girardi has kept him around indicates he might have something in mind for Vargas in line with what I wrote. We'll have a better idea when Moehler is taken off the DL. I'm guessing either Vargas or Resop will be sent back down when that happens.
