Sabermetric thought on our boy Danny Uggs
Interesting stuff. On what site is this kind of information available?

Lineup change
Wouldn't that translate to something like 50 more at-bats over the course of the season for the pitcher's spot? Not a big fan of this idea.

Andre Dawson on Hanley
There are contradictory terms used in that argument. Over-swinging would mean that he's trying too hard. How is trying too hard being complacent?
-
Poll- Will the Marlins have a .300 hitter this season?
I'd vote "who cares?" if it was an option. There are better stats.

Does Hanley Stealing Less Hurt the Offense?
He is stealing at 70%, which means that all that running has actually hurt the team. He needs to successfully steal at a better rate.

Lineup Change
Hermida has been getting on base slightly more over the last 10 games, I don't see how it's going to do much. I mean, I hope it does help and Ross goes on a streak.

Does Hanley finish the season with a BA at or above .300?
Where is the "who cares?" option? I care more about his OBP and SLG, which are both, unfortunately, lower than last year. Well his OBP is affected because of his avg. If he was hitting 330 like last year his OBP would be over .400 Very good point. How is it a good point? Everyone knows, or at least should know, that OBP is essentially batting average plus walks. My point is that OBP renders BA superfluous.

Can this team change its style?
I think the offense will be fine. The batters had struggled to make the necessary adjustments. Pitchers were generally throwing more breaking pitches and not throwing as many first pitches in the strike zone. It looks like they're starting to adjust. The biggest problem is Hanley being in a funk, which he hopefully broke out of tonight. He had a 17 game stretch where his OPS was .599, which is, of course, brutal. He's too good to continue slumping the rest of the way.

What is Fredi's problem?
I don't understand the people who want every manager to be Lou Piniella. It's probably people who can't control their own emotions; so they need to see the manager go nuts to feel vindicated. Your s/n is Psycho Sid. You remember that guy. The poster boy for inability to control your emotions. Yes, I chose a silly screen name with the word Psycho in it so I must be psychotic.

Marlins FO willing to trade Jake for reliever
Jake's OBP is terrible. Trade him and bring up Dallas.

Re-Acquire Willis?
No thanks. Whatever he had, he's lost it. He also makes too much money.

Josh Johnson tonight!
Despite some mistakes along the way, I was very encouraged by his performance. Encouraged is an apt word here.

Anibal Sanchez
Ya don't know where to pet 'em all. Be careful, ballplayers tend to bite.

"The Amezaga catch"
Hey Bronco, I'm sure you if you make just a few more jokes and complaints about the fans they'll start going to games in droves. Just like how the gas prices have gone down with everyone complaining about them. And I'm sure if everyone just ignores that we don't go to the games everyone will start going. Ignore it and it will go away never did work for anything. The point of my analogy to gas prices is that complaining about an issue to anyone you encounter isn't going to produce results. There are many problems that wouldn't be resolved unless someone spoke up. This isn't one of them. It's not a situation where there are thousands of people who just need to hear someone complain about attendance to motivate them to go to games. If anything, hearing that there is little interest in the team would almost certainly curb interest from casual uninformed fans. What it will most likely take to get attendance up to respectable levels is a team that wins consistently and is playing in a new stadium. It's not an issue that should be ignored, but incessantly bringing it up on the internet won't resolve the issue.

Post game 6/04 MARLINS BEAT BRAVES
I missed the controversial play involving the first base umpire. Can anyone describe it?

Instant Replay?
There's no question in my mind that at some point this is going to become a owner vs umpires issues in collective bargaining where the "guy in the booth" or however it works out will be part of the umpiring crew. This is an imperfect sport played and run by imperfect people, and that's part of the game. Having an umpire's "eyes" on home runs 200 ft away from the nearest umpire makes sense and is sellable, going beyond that to computers calling balls and strikes gets a little too close to "Robot Baseball", and I don't think that's good for the game. Translation: I'm really old.

Should the Marlins lock Uggla up next?
While I do agree that Uggla is proving himself and swaying my opinion as to whether we should keep him or sell high, someone needs to tell Israel Gutierrez that there are more hitting stats besides HR and RBI's, namely, AVG and K's. It's ridiculous to say that Uggla is clearly produced more than Braun, Tulowitzki or Longoria. By the way, Uggla is in his third full season, while those other guys have all played around one full season or less. Or more useful stats than any of those in OBP and SLG.

Details of Hanley's contract
Its not extremely backloaded!!! Well, about two-thirds of the money is in the last 3 years.

Should the Marlins lock Uggla up next?
Jacobs hasn't yet proven that he can get on base consistently. His slugging is up from the last 2 years, but his OBP is still hovering around .300.

How about Ben Sheets?
I just don't think it's worth the gamble on either Sheets or Harden considering their injury history, especially Harden. At least Sheets was able to string together 3 years of 30+ starts.
