July 18, 200817 yr Orestes Destrade just said he spoke with Marlins Assistant GM Dan Jennings. With JJ back and Sanchez not far behind, the FO is okay with the rotation, but Jennings told Destrade they would be willing to trade a big bopper like Mike Jacobs for an adequate reliever. Holy crap!!!!!

July 18, 200817 yr If it's someone good like a catcher or a very good reliever it's cool. Jake is a good hitter fi he gets traded i wish him the best where ever he goes
July 18, 200817 yr Us trading Jacobs is good news, just don't think Jacobs will net us a good reliver or anything. If we do end up trading a bat for a reliver it's more likely to be Josh Williangham. Other wise will trade prospects such as Vanden Hurk, West, Petersen, Cousins, Sanchez, etc... for a reliver
July 18, 200817 yr Trading Jake would not only bring in a reliever, but also Dallas McPherson, who could be a major upgrade to the infield moving Cantu permanently to first.
July 18, 200817 yr Funny I was just chatting with Hanleylicious last night and was saying that we should trade Jake for a good reliever and maybe a minor league pitcher as well. And for the record, I like Jake. (See: Username) This way, Cantu can go to first and Mcfearson to third. Dallas CAN NOT stay in tripple A for too much longer. He can help us so much.

I don't think the FO would move him unless they are blown away. Jacobs, on the other hand, could probably be had for a run of the mill reliever.
July 18, 200817 yr Jon Rauch. Don't know if the Marlins would deal within the division but he is a stud and on the trade block. EDIT: Maybe Jacobs and one of our B prospects for Rauch?
July 18, 200817 yr Jon Rauch. Don't know if the Marlins would deal within the division but he is a stud and on the trade block. We can't afford him next season, remember?.

Jacobs is what you call a below average 1st baseman and even if he where a DH in the American league he would still be below average. The homers are nice but Jacobs can't make consistent contact, take walks, or play defense and on top of that is very injury prone. Look around baseball how many teams need a 1B? Probably the Giants, Mariners and that about it. On the other hand Williangham is average to slightly above average. Teams like the Blue Jays, Dbacks for example should be interested
July 18, 200817 yr Let's trade for carlos marmol!!!! lets give the cubs jake and gregg lol.... "lol" is right.
July 18, 200817 yr I don't hate Jacobs, but I do think he has more value then people give him. He can hit the ball out of the ball park and I think he would be much better off as a DH in the AL. That being said, Dallas fits the 2008 Marlins "stereotype" 100 percent, he belongs in the majors.
July 18, 200817 yr He might not be the worst, but Jake is definitely the most frustrating guy in our lineup. I'd happily let him go in favor of some bullpen help and McFEARson. I made that up right now. Be Proud.
July 18, 200817 yr I like Jake as well, but I think that we can get at least a decent reliever for him and maybe a draft pick or something. I am in love with the idea of bringing up Dallas as well.
July 18, 200817 yr You've got to trade Jacobs or McPherson. Its foolish to keep both of them at this point because you have the depth. As for Willingham...that's a horrible idea. The point of trading Jacobs is that he can be replaced. We have no adequate left fielder....and besides Willingham might have even LESS trade value with his injuries.
July 18, 200817 yr No way am i willing to trade willingham. Jake can go for a good reliever or slightly above average one. Id prefer to call up dallas soon and se how he handles being back in the bigs. Hey we should call the a's they seem to be giving out pitchers.

July 18, 200817 yr dallas mcpherson is injured, missed (I think it was) last three games, pulled out of AAA HR Derby and then all-star game. there was no game tonight. look to see if he's playing tomorrow night. I didn't hear it but I doubt Jennings would name Jacobs by name not with the second half starting. probably supposition on Destrade's part. Jacobs so belongs in the AL. Teams like KC who are starving for homeruns would be candidates (not just KC, but others in the same boat). I wonder if Destrade talked to Jennings BEFORE Miller went on the DL ????? I still like the Reds' reliever Weathers (with or without Ross) but they don't need a first baseman (Votto). See Weathers' away numbers and vs lefties each of last three years. Cheap, seasoned, been down this road before. Fits in several roles when asked. Free agent in 2009. Good match. Phillies got Blanton. Pedro down again even if temporarily. Does Beinfest/Hill stand pat or move quickly?
