August 6, 200817 yr This is getting ridiculous. That Victorino ball was foul. We all know it. Jorge Cantu is over there pleading with the umps, then explaining the whole thing to Fredi. And what does our lovely manager do???? Watches the crew get together, officially decide it was a home run, and then calmly walk back to the dug out. ARE YOU F@CKING KIDDING ME???? THERE IS NO REASON WHY FREDI SHOULDN'T BE AS IRATE AS I AM ABOUT THAT CALL. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THAT UMP'S FACE. GET TOSSED, WHO CARES??? AT THIS POINT I'D RATHER HAVE TOSCA MANAGE THE BULLPEN ANYWAY!!! JEEEZ
August 6, 200817 yr Author He probably couldn't see it. He doesn't have a TV down there. I would agree. But if my 3rd baseman is overly confident that it was foul, I'm believing him.
August 6, 200817 yr Jorge Cantu did not show a lot of emotion. I think he knew it was foul but he didn't go crazy, he seemed resigned to the bad call.
August 6, 200817 yr Perhaps b/c he could not see it. Also, you do realize...whether he stays calm or goes crazy...the call won't change.
August 6, 200817 yr Author Perhaps b/c he could not see it. Also, you do realize...whether he stays calm or goes crazy...the call won't change. Of course I realize that, thanks for bringing that into question though. Its just about Fredi's passion man. Get pissed sometimes man. Your allowed to.
August 6, 200817 yr jsprt I agree, to a certain extent, if I was a manager I would get really pissed often but I think in this case Fredi wasn't sure and there is no reason to go crazy unless you know for sure.
August 6, 200817 yr I don't understand the people who want every manager to be Lou Piniella. It's probably people who can't control their own emotions; so they need to see the manager go nuts to feel vindicated.

August 6, 200817 yr let bring in Ozzie Guillen, listen to him curse every second and then complain that he has too much fire.

The poster boy for inability to control your emotions.
August 6, 200817 yr I'd rather have a manager that doesn't easily lose control of his emotions. Calm head = smart decisions. Not getting thrown out of a game = smart decision. Then Carlos Tosca would be managing the team. And we've already seen how poor of a job he does at it.
August 6, 200817 yr I've seen Freddi go crazy so OP is definitely uninformed and wrong. It's just seems like the spoiled Marlins fans want to jump on Freddi for EVERYTHING as of late, which is typical for Miami fans when a team is performing well but some things just go wrong, etc...

August 6, 200817 yr I have said that throughout the year, I wish Fredi showed a little more fire and was mocked at. I still wish he showed a little more fire, but that's just not his personality, no point in expecting him to change. We are winning ball games thats all I really care about, how we do it is irrelevant. :gofish
August 6, 200817 yr The only problem I have with Fredi tonight is the way he handled the bullpen. I saw ZERO reason to use 5 relievers in 3 innings tonight...4 in the 7th & 8th to be more specific. As far as what he's done in general...he's the NL MOY right now. It's either him or Tony La Russa. He's doing no worse than what "the great" Joe Girardi did in '06. He's done a nice job, imo. Also, we don't know how he is off the field. Whatever he's doing off the field is working for the team. It's a team exceeding expectations, and a team that seems to have great chemistry. Fredi must be doing something right...
August 6, 200817 yr Fredi's message (roughly) to the team tonight: We can't get this call changed by bitching and throwing a tantrum, so let's move on and concentrate on winning this game. At least that's the message I would try to transmit to the team if I were the manager.
August 6, 200817 yr if i was the manager i would have been pissed took off my jersey throw it on the floor with my hat grab third base and throw it in the audience gone to the foul poul and point where the ball landed.......fredi did neither and you know what it's cool. i mean if he argued it would have been nice but he prefered not to make a big deal of it basically telling his players it don't matter we can still win, play ball
August 6, 200817 yr I didn't catch the game 'til the 9th inning, so I didn't see that. It's fun to see my manager occasionally go nutts, which Fredi does (occasionally). However, considering that these tantrums NEVER overturn the ruling on the field, I could care less if my manager is as dull as the color beige.
August 6, 200817 yr The other point of view is that if Freddi goes out there and throws a tantrum and gets tossed it fires up the Phillie fans and gets the opposing team a little energized (at home it would be a different story). Not to mention that it could be interpreted as fear by the Phillies, that Freddi thinks they will nto win because of that bad call. I like the fact that he handled it calmly here. Furthermore, I am getting a bit irritated lately by all the bad mouthing of Freddi for every little thing. I mean someone in the game forum continually calls him "turd" or whatever and that is something I would expect to hear from a 5 year old maybe.....well maybe that guy is 5 years old... whatever. Bottom line, some decisions he makes will work out some won't. Such is life as an MLB manager. Enjoy the fact that your team is doing so well and stop over reacting for everything.
August 6, 200817 yr either way i was pissed with the move to take out miller....yes i know taguchi hit his ball hard but we got the two outs..... just let him finish the inning damn it!!!
August 6, 200817 yr There is a new rule this year. The manager is not allowed to argue a call after the four umpires have come to a joint decision. If he tries, he will be automatically tossed without his argument being heard since a joint decision had already been made. It already happened to him earlier this year. He may not be perfect, but I think he has done a phenomenal job with the Marlins this year. I will not be surprised when he is named NL manager of the year.
