Poll- Will the Marlins have a .300 hitter this season?

Featured Replies

this is not a batting average oriented team. Pressley has failed to team them fundemental hitting. I say a resounding no, just nobody on this team seems to have a good eye for the plate

Well, that ofcourse doesn't count Hanley Ramirez, who is just shy of .300, batted over it last season, and batted .300 all season until July 29th when he started hitting a skid.

Hanley will get hot and get to 310

and cantu has been extremley cold but he started heating up yesterday hes gonna be in the 290's maybe 300

Hendrickson will be at around 270 since he'll get like 1 at bat before the season is over lol

i think hanley will hit over .300 this year

seriously need to get more guys that do this regularly for next season

stop all this .250 nonsense

If Hammer is healthy(and here) next season I could see it happening. This year? Hendrickson... easily.

I am sorry to tell u, but Willingham (will never call him Hammer again) will not be on this team next year. We already have Raynor/Maybin ready to take over in the outfield. If Raynor isn't ready we will just keep Cody Ross and move him over to left field.

Which would be why I put in parenthesis "(and here)" because you never know.

see this guy raynor - i have a few questions about him

which positions in the OF is he best suited to?

wot type of hitter is he?

much speed?

good defence?

i dont get to hear much about minor leaguers over here unless its guys like maybin, mcpherson etc

Hanley will get it. Thats why he's the best SS in the MLB.

i don't think you get how baseball works

he can play all outfield positions because of his speed

hes a singles hitter but k's alot needs to work on that

41 steals so far so yea he has very good speed

his defense is good do to his speed which gives him range

his arm i heard was avg but im not so sure

hes good but he wont start next year unless cody or hermida are dealt

idk about helms

What don't you know about a $3.75 million option. Helms is 100% gone.

yea but when he signs with a new team we might freakin sign him if he gets relaesed or trade for him because we need that "veteran pressence" crap

i want him gone though

Good defense, can play anywhere in the outfield (but his value will be maximized in CF for low power reasons), he is a slap hitter with a little pop, will take a walk, and is very very fast on the base paths.

A best case scenario is Shane Victorino, maybe even with a little more OBP if the BB:K completely translates to the bigs. A worst case would be a Rajai Davis, Joey Gathright, Willy Taveras kind of bum who steals bases and warms benches.

What? The Marlins are going to buy him out for $750k, and he is going to sign with another team this offseason (if he can even get a deal because a .650 OPS for the last 2 seasons is not good). There is no need to speculate about in season player acquisitions beyond that. Helms is 100% gone. Done.

good because we have 3 players capable of playin 1st and 3rd

in Cantu Sanchez and Mcphearson and Andino and Amezaga can play 3rd if they stick around

Helms hasent been a total bust but he hasnet done that great same goes with gonzo

Then dont call him, and/or Maybin up until they've solved that. We need to get rid of all of this leading the league in strikeouts business. Its holding us down with .RISP and just in games in general.

A speedster who has posted a .404 .OBP in his 3 year career in the minors...K's become irrelevant.

Plus, this is the first year he's K'd over 100 times. It happens. Hanley K's plenty as well, yet he's the best leadoff hitter in the game.

K's don't matter as much, when you're bringing good patience, more speed, and much better defense.

Same applies to Maybin, although Maybin has a bigger problem with K's...yet his speed, great defense, and added power (he's considered a 5 tool player) can make up for it.

The fact is that Hanley is the only hitter on this team who has a career BA over .300. Nobody else is really even close. Cantu is hitting right around his career BA. Hammer is hitting below his (.267) but not by much.

To me the disappointment as far as BA is Jacobs who had a minor league career BA of .287.

I'd vote "who cares?" if it was an option. There are better stats.

Equivalent Average is supposed to be a more meaningful stat that takes into account various factors and adjusts for ball park and league differences. The scale is the same as regular BA.

Hanley and Uggla are the only Marlins with an EqA over .300
