Anibal Sanchez

Featured Replies

I know we still have a while until Anibal Sanchez returns from the DL (4-6 weeks I think ?) but whose spot in the rotation do you think he'll take?

It's hypothetical question because there are so many things that can happen between now and then (Volstad struggles, Johnson struggles, etc.). However, assuming things go "according to plan" what do you think our rotation will look like?

Anybody think we'll move him to the bullpen?

I'd imagine Olsen and Nolasco are the only "untouchables".

Well the most likely pitchers to stay are olsen, nolasco, miller, and johnson. I'm pretty sure that volstad will be sent down, unless he is pitching great. Then we have ourselves a tough situation.

If volstad pitches really good, can we go with a 6 man rotation?

I dont think it will work. The Sox tried a 6 man rotation in 2007 for about 3 cycles and it threw everything off. The pitchers are used to the 5 day cycle. But like they say they work themselves out. Someone will get hurt or struggle and it will be easy to make the move. 4-6 weeks to get back but I am sure he is going to go through AA and AAA before he is back so it has time.

You need a 5 man rotation... extra man goes to the pen... id imagine that would be Volstad unless he is phenomenal.

One of the problems with having too much young pitching. Ya don't know where to pet 'em all.

But It's a problem most teams would like to have :mischief

Anyone know when Anibal's next start will be and at what level? I see that he's had one start with GCL Rookie team. Not much more info than that. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I think it will be closer to 4 weeks:

C. Disabled List-Assignment to Minor League club

(1) There shall be no assignment of a Player by a Major League Club to a Minor League club while such Player is on a Major League Disabled List; provided, however, that with the Player?swritten consent, a copy of which shall be forwarded to the Association, and with the approval of the Commissioner, a Player on the Disabled List may be assigned to a Minor League club for up to a maximum of twenty days (thirty days for pitchers) for each injury, or reoccurrence of an injury, for the purpose of rehabilitation, subject to the limits contained in Article XIII(H). Separate consent shall be required for a rehabilitation assignment for a new injury or a reoccurrence of an injury. No consent shall be effective for longer than twenty days (thirty days for pitchers).

Players may not be reinstated from the Disabled List for purposes of assignment to a Minor League club until they are ready to play. Players who are injured and not able to play may not be assigned to a Minor League club.

CBA Article XIX Section C

He pitched his first MiLB rehab assignment on the 3rd. Unless he gets re-injured, he up no later than August 3.

Admin Beinfest's mantra is "Always get pitching back in every trade..." it's likely if he moves a Jacobs or Hermida or fillintheblank - as in I have no idea what he has up his sleeve - including minor league pitching prospects and position players and/or an Andino who, to the disappointment of many here who said was skill-less and was not now or ever going to be a major leaguer, might be a good pickup for the right team. When I see Andino I think Pablo Ozuna who has crafted a nice career for himself in the bigs as the go to utility guy type every team needs.

I would guess if the target were Ross for example it might be a package of Ross and Weathers for some quality minor league talent going to Cincy. Between Ross and Weathers the cost for the rest of the season would be less than $3 million including next season's buyout of Ross' option. Weathers might really fit nicely in our pen and his experience here pitching in Dolphin Stadium has to be a plus. But again who knows? The only thing I think we can be sure of is it's isn't going to be Baker and Hoover for the rest of the season.

Don't jinx Anibal. His return is more uncertain because of the nature of his injury. Lets give him a good long rehab stint in the Minors.

I am not 100% sold that Olsen will be here after the trade deadline. I know there are people who will think I am crazy but The future of pitching staff is starting to mature and get healthy. Olsen would net us some decent talent in terms of a catcher and relief help.

Not going to happen while we are in contention, and I think we will be in contention all year long. At least past the trade deadline anyway. You can't just trade one of you're more reliable pitchers (this season) in the middle of a playoff run for some young talent. It would send a terrible message to the fans. Plus, who's to say we can't win the east? The Phils have shown so far that they can't run away with it, and the Mets are playing better now but are still an aging bunch of underachievers. Our odds are as good as theirs. I think Olsen will remain with the club through the end of the season. He will probably be traded in the off season.

If Olsen were traded this year, it would be for major league players. You could probably get some really decent return in a trade packaging him with Jacobs.

He starts for Class A Jupiter tonight.

Ah nevermind just read on the Hammerheads site that he was, and the game started at 6:35... if it was a 7:05 start I was going to hurry up and get there, but not worth it now...
