  1. if we try to leave, expect to see this guy in the outfield: ,
  2. nolasco's ridiculous K:BB ratio gets my vote
  3. Those aren't superficial reasons, they are very real reasons. Hermida is only 24 and has WAY more upside than Willingham, who not only has a bad back, but is in the bottom half of production for all LFers. Hermida does have better trade value, but that's because he's more valuable. Hammer is very replacable. that is a subjective argument in favor of hermida. but, what has he actually done to make you think he'll be anything greater than (hopefully) an average right fielder? he hasn't shown anything to suggest he's going to be anywhere near the kind of impact player some people for some reason think he will be. the only thing suggesting he has "WAY more upside" is he was a first-round pick. o, and also his 1 half of a season performance when the team had no chance at the playoffs. it's been 3 yrs... when will he start playing to his potential? i see hermida as very replacable too... and if we can get good value for him now, please trade him.
  4. that response was uber cute... but, it didn't address my question. Cuz, in the post I mentioned those reasons are superficial to me because when you get down to who will be the more productive player on a team that has willingham and hermida, i think it will always be willingham.... making those superficial reasons appealing to another team, meaning hermida most likely would have a greater trade value than willy... but do not make him as good a player as willingham will be in 09. I just don't think hermida is a lock in 09 is all.... and yea, i know it's easier to play left at DS.
  5. question: why is it that it's so obvious were keeping hermida over willingham in 09? it can't be that he's better defensively - Willingham 22 assists and 11 errors, Hermida 11 assists and 22 errors. it can't be cuz he's better offensively - career line avg's Hermida 1238 ABs 344/440/267, Willingham 1347 ABs 362/470/267 reasons i can think of why hermida is the "obvious" keeper: younger (by 5 yrs), more potential, and he's less of an injury risk (although it has been Willingham getting 500+ ABs the past two seasons... however it looks like Hermida will crack the 500 AB mark this season) I'd like to think the FO will shop both of them in the offseason, and keep the one that nets us less in a trade. and for the reasons we would keep hermida, could be superficial enough to net us greater value in a trade versus trading willingham. because as I think is pretty clear, Willingham has played better than Hermida since they've been here, and I don't think that would change in 09. although i do think hermida has the potential to develop into a good everyday player, i honestly don't think he'll ever do it batting at DS for half the seasons games... his career home/away splits are noticably skewed: home 605 ABs 322/408/250 vs away 633 ABs 364/471/284. so, maybe we do us and hermida a favor by trading him away from DS and allow him to flourish into a great hitter. Now unless Raynor or Maybin can't play right field.... f*ck everything I just said and keep Hermida. Cuz Willingham can't cover the ground in right field... but does a great job in our abbreviated left field. Can someone please tell me why Hermida is a lock in RF next yr?
  6. yep, Cody is a guy i would like to keep, mainly because we are a HORRIBLE defensive team and he has been one of the few bright spots there. Hermida needs to actually show me he can do something ALL season not just the 2nd half. If he can't get rid of him after the 09 season. Uggz will be gone soon, he will be asking for a lot, and management has groomed Couglen, he is ready, Jacobs is replaceable also, Gaby Sanchez is close to ready, but until then we can move Cantu to first and see what McPhearson can do. Coughlan has twice as many errors as Uggla so far this season, and you think he's ready to pick up the slack of playing in our IF? I'm not saying that he is ready defensively, I just think that he brings something to this team that Uggla doesn't, he is a contact hitter. He will have a high batting average and could turn out to be another Luis Castillo but worse defensively. Couglan may need another year to correct some problems. i take uggla over a "contact hitter" any day of the flippin week. certainly over a contact hitter who's worse defensively.

  8. as much as i keep hearing on these threads about how uggla sucks i refuse to believe he's a bad player. somethings bothering him whether it be ASG, overworked/tired, or changed mentality at the plate. this is not the same uggla us marlins fans are used to seeing! He doesn't suck. He just came back to Earth. It is called a "slump". "Slump?" He passed that long ago. He's hitting .193 with a .649 .OPS in the 2nd half. He has sucked for 2 months now. .190/.292/.381 in July .200/.325/.300 in August A 2 month "slump?" huh? Keep trying. You'll come out of a "theory" and just recognize that he came back to life. Amazing how some people give some players on the team (like Kevin Gregg and Renyel Pinto, for example) get so much blame, yet some like Dan Uggla get so little, at times. Why don't you take a look at his seasonal stats the past 3 yrs? They are that of a "good" hitter... especially for a second baseman. So, then for a good hitter to not hit well for a period of time, it is called a slump, yes.

  10. i wish we'd stop entertaining the idea of gonzo playing everyday at an outfield spot.... though his bat may be slightly better than hermida's right now... his defense is amazingly horrifying and aggravating to watch. at least for me.
  11. Gaby Sanchez received best defensive first baseman Gaby just became my favorite... I really don't see why he won't be our first baseman in '09.
  12. Hermida this year, Coghlan in 2009. Is'nt Coghlan more of a power hitter? Right now he only has 7 in AA through 112 games, but his obp would warrant the 2 spot. If uggla can finish the season off with a BA higher than what it is now, I'd still prefer him over Coghlan at 2nd.
  13. put me in the camp that thinks Fredi has taken out his starters early TWO nights in a row. When you're starting pitcher is ROLLING through a lineup, you kinda gotta give that pitch count thing the boot until he starts to struggle. It's not as if it would be much of a strain on soft-tossing Olsen, who has pitched 30 games the last three seasons to have a 130 pitch outing (ricky nolasco-esque). Also, if you were skeptical about him facing Holliday and Atkins.... he already had twice in the game and handled them. Also, isn't gonzo a bad pinch hitter? i'm in a rush so i can't look up the stats.... but I remember him not being good enough to take out a hot pitcher. and yes, i feel a 2-0 lead would have been sufficient for olsen. Nolasco was takin out because the meat of the order was coming up, and it was his fourth time through the line-up. Plus, Holliday was owning him. And olsen had to be takin out. we needed to score, and with the bases loaded and him up it was the perfect time to do it. And Gonzo has a .179 average as a pinch hitter. No, we didn't.
