August 3, 200817 yr Which was the most boneheaded decision of the day? Btw, we should have this as a poll every game to go along with the fish/ahole of the game.
August 3, 200817 yr All of them were boneheaded. He has done a good job for the most part, but sometimes he leaves me just shaking my head thinking I really wanted to win 60 today, we have 50 games remaining. We need to win about 30 of them. (DO IT)
August 3, 200817 yr OMG, he ONLY made ONE questionable / bad decision. He didn't bring in his closer for the 9th inning. Big whoop...Fredi doesn't have a bat in his hands; these are professional players...they went 1-10 with .RISP today. I said it last night, while everyone was going goo-goo-gaa-gaa over the win. The hitters were terrible last night, and 9x out of 10, when you play like that, you lose. Well, they did it today again...and lost.
August 3, 200817 yr I agree that wit his decision to take Olsen out, all of his choices for who to pinch hit i agreed wit, the only thing i disagreed wit was not putting in Gregg, but other than that he was fine, the players didn't do their job
August 3, 200817 yr He made the right decision by pinching hitting for olsen because the bases were loaded and we had a chance to gain some distance on them. Unfortunately Gonzo decided he didn't wanna do anything. He also made the right decision when Gregg didn't start the 9th because although he's done well of late, he's still Kevin Gregg.

Then make Joe Nelson the closer, if that's the philosophy.

Scott in the 6th after only allowing 1 hit and being under 100 pitches.... he needs to go back out for the 7th... If you want Rhodes to come in and pitch and he strikes out 1 guy, dont go to Pinto unless you need to pinch hit for Rhodes.. instead he just brought pinto in.. Now this one is questionable... but with the bases loaded, Cantu at bat, down by 1 run in the bottom of the 9th with less than 2 outs... im putting the suicide squeeze on 99.9% of the time...
August 3, 200817 yr maybe they should have left olsen in to hit becuase he friggin hits better with RISP than some people on this team!

NOOOOOOOOOOO, wit Helms at 3rd? U would be fired for a suicide squeeze, especially wit a sac fly waiting to happen
August 3, 200817 yr None of his decisions were bad today except for leaving in Nelson. I wanted to see lindstrom come in, not kevin gregg. But whatever. Lets just pray the phillies lose, because im predicting a sweep this series.
August 3, 200817 yr I am indifferent to Fredi as a manager but the fault lays in how this team was/is constructed . We have been on an amazing ride that has exceded our low expectations and payroll buit at the end of the day we have too many players who lack discipline at the plate. We strike out more than any other team , most of the line up does not make any adjustment at the plate , we never make productive outs . There have been so instances during the season when all that was required was a ground ball or fly ball to the outfield to score additional runs . Fredi cant swing that bat for these guys maybe instead of trying to hit a home run every single time our line up will merely attempt to put the ball in play and we might win even more games . At the end of the day the guys in the field determine if we win or lose.

He's looking to add on to a lead. Why would he stay content with a 2-0 lead in the 6th? And Olsen was at 94 pitches; he was good for another inning, if that. He wasn't going to go the whole game, regardless. Plus, the guys coming up...Holliday and specifically Atkins, absolutely mash lefties, but that's a whole 'nother story. 2. Rhodes is a lefty specialist. Pinto is actually a better option for the 8th inning...what they did off of him was garbage. He had an unfortunate outing. 3. Putting the suicide squeeze with your 3rd hitter, who's come up with so many huge hits this year, is...(forgive me for saying this)...stupid.

The 9th inning is what really makes it aggravating. Bases Loaded with 1 out against fuentes with our hottest hitter up. This is the game you would say WTF when looking at the boxscore and the result and who won. It's almost as bad as throwing a combined no-hitter and losing (Angels vs. Dodgers)
August 3, 200817 yr maybe they should have left olsen in to hit becuase he friggin hits better with RISP than some people on this team! Gonzo's hitting .333 with .RISP before that AB. So no...

If the bases are loaded, you are up by 2 runs, you're pitcher(who was at 93 pitches) is coming up, and you're struggling for runs, you have to use a pinch hitter. And you dont do a suicide squeeze in the ninth inning, bases loaded, one out with one of your best hitters up.

I think Fredi deserves a share of the blame for allowing the players to think it's okay to not adjust and it's okay to swing for the fences every at-bat. I think this team would be much better defensively and a much more disciplined hitting team if we had a better/stricter manager. Who's telling these guys to choke up and shorten their swings with RISP? I would assume nobody is, because I don't even see them trying to alter their approaches.
