August 4, 200619 yr Very simple....make someone else beat you.....i'll give up a run and walk Ortiz and Manny and make someone else in that lineup beat you...not saying they won't but gotta do it. Intentionally walk both, bringing a run in and putting the tying run on 3rd with 1 out. Brilliant Pitch to a guy whose been crushing the ball at an obsene rate and lose.....Brilliant Heck, i'd walk Ortiz to get to Manny and if feasible walk Manny too.....Can't let Ortiz beat you....Didn't Showalter walk Bonds when the bases were already loaded???? With a 2 run lead, an out, and the tying runs on, you want to give them a run and put the tying run on third. That's retarded. And as I said you want to let a man that has proved time and time again to beat people in this situation do it again????? That's retarded. I'd rather make Papi beat me than walk in a run, and put the tying run on 3rd with one out when just about anyone can hit a sac fly. not to mention the guy batting in back of him is an even better hitter
August 4, 200619 yr Manny really almost did it. Ugh @ this game. I can't believe Cleveland took that series after game 1. Meltdown.
August 5, 200619 yr I found this pretty interesting: Link Monroe has hit nine homers this season in the seventh inning or later with the difference in the game two runs or fewer. That ties him with Boston's David Ortiz for the most such homers by any player in the majors, according to research by homer historian and analyst David Vincent. Until Friday, when Ortiz hit his ninth-such homer, Monroe had been tied in that department with Albert Pujols of St. Louis and Ortiz. Here's a list: David Ortiz 9 Craig Monroe 8 Albert Pujols 8 Vernon Wells 7 Jeff Francoeur 6 Carlos Lee 6 Richie Sexson 6 Obviously Papi does it more in a walk-off sense, but pretty cool stat.
