It looks like either Bicentennial Park or Near the Miami Arena. The Miami River site is about dead, too expensive according to articles.

Construct a new park on the Miami River site or by it.

 

The people of Miami wouldn't like the Marlins to construct the ballpark in Bicentennial Park....It would also effect Miami's trade industry by cars going to the park.(clog truck traffic by the seaport,slow down shipping and increase operating costs)

You couldn't pick a more expensive site than those two downtown sites. The Herald will go absolutely nuts over this. They do not want the Marlins next to them, they'll be trotting out Linda Robertson to bash the Marlins almost daily. If you think you've seen the Herald at its worst before, just hold on, "you ain't seen nuthin' yet". They have a vision for that part of downtown, as arts oriented area, they even got the Performing Arts Center built in front of their office building. The last thing they want is 40,000 fans screaming while Pavorotti is performing accross the street.

 

From a selfish standpoint it would be great but I doubt that Bi-Centennial Park will be the site. Perhaps accross the street between Biscayne and the Arena, but thats all owned by a parking magnate (I believe Hank Sopher) and I can't imagine him giving up those tracts without getting the parking rights, which would create havoc with the Marlins finances. I hope you're right but I fear you're not.

 

Then there's the whole Miami Beach thing which as a resident I find fascinating. The Beach is going to get that $50 million if a deal isn't done by December 1st. Greta Milberg is the wife of Micheal Milberg, local hotshot insider mover and shaker who ran the previous Mayor's re-election campaign. The current Mayor (Dermer) selfishly wants that $50 million for the city. For Mayor Dermer to suggest that the County and the City of Miami shouldn't be getting into these kinds of development deals when last week the City of Miami Beach just gave away probably $10 million worth of city owned land (refusing to allow the voters a chance to decide) is the height of hypocracy. But that's politics.

Nope, the building you speak off has not been used to store the writing, sales, and other staff since about 2000. They are now in a building up in Broward.

No Cape, on this one you're wrong. As loathe as I am to disagree with you, their main offices are downtown Miami, between the Venetian Causeway and the McArthur Causeway. What you are thinking of is a satellite office built to provide a presence to better allow them to battle the Sun-Sentinel. Trust me on this one buddy.

 

And BTW, if you don't think the Herald wields enormous power in this city you are out of the loop. Nothing significant happens downtown that they don't have a say in, their BOD is involved in every facet of downtown renewal.

Yes, they'd have to move/relocate Biscayne Blvd to the west which involves significant ultility relocation. It becomes extraordinarily expensive.

 

I've never been in love with any of the three downtown locations. The one settled on with Henry (on the Miami River) was just an awful, awful location. The Miami Arena/west side of Biscayne Blvd site just doesn't have the highway access neccessary and to build you have to get the State and the Feds involved.
