Marlins' All-Time Web Gems

Featured Replies

Today was the Nationals, tomorrow the Reds. It looks like in this matter and all others, the Marlins get no love from ESPN.

Why ESPN? The marlins are the feel good story of the year, but the only time ive seen us on ESPN NEWS is today about the overblown Loria/Girardi story.

Not that this is related to this thread at all, but the Marlins were the "Did you know?" on BBTN, regarding the largest percentage of a team's wins coming from rookies. "I guess that just shows you don't have to be old, to be good." So no, you're wrong.

Back on topic, they did 3 out of 5 NL East teams and then jumped to the Reds, so not sure when the Marlins Top Web-Gems will be showed.

i was at the game where darrell whitmore made that rediculous catch as he hit the bullpen wall in right field...that was the most remarkable catch ive seen anyone in the black and teal make

What about Amazega's catch a couple of weeks ago ? That was about as spectacular as they come.

My vote for all-time would be Conine's throw to Pudge against the Giants to end game 4 and win the series. If we don't win that game I feel we'd never have won that WS in 2003.

Surely ESPN will use Bartman, you just feel it in your gut.

There's not a play in sports I will remember more than Conine's throw to end the NLDS.

Preston Wilson slamming into the ivy woulda been great...if he held on (he didn't, right?)

no, he definitely didnt... and my old car's radio knob was never the same

Holy crap I remember that! I was like HELL YE---WHAT THE f*** NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Anyway I think Juanny Enc has to be on there when he went head over heels in a meaningless game last year or the year before.

Gonzo HAS to be on there too. His highlight reel from '04 is ridiculous.

JP's sliding catch against Boston in that '03 Interleague game should be there too. Then throwing it to Gonzo as he just stomps on second with authority for the final out. That game was awesome. I remember it because there was no coverage on TV in Florida so I had to listen to radio and I was listening so closely. Haha, I hate radios.

absolutely, I doubt it will beat out the Conine play, but it should be top 3

It won't make the list, but how about Derrek Lee's game-ending pick on a rocket hit to him by Matsui in Game 5 of the 2003 World Series? Huge play.

Problem is they've had so many GREAT defenders, there isn't one play that stands above the rest: Alex Gonzalez, Charles Johnson, Derrek Lee, Luis Castillo, Pudge Rodriguez, etc... can't think of one play from many of them that stand out from the rest.

Here's my list, of the plays that have been brought up:

1. Conine to Pudge, 2003 NLDS

2. Darrell Whitmore flip

3. Alfredo Amezega, backhanded dive, 2006

4. Alex Gonzalez, 2003 World Series Game 1 highlight reel

5. Gary Sheffield, 1997 World Series

6. Jeff Conine, backhand catch by left field wall, 2003 NLDS

7. Scott Pose, 1993 Opening Day

8. Derrek Lee, game-ending pick, 2003 World Series, Game 5

9. Ivan Rodriguez, pickoff at third base, 2003 World Series, Game 1
