August 7, 200619 yr BBTN is doing a best all-time web gems for every club. What should be on the list for the Marlins?? These were the first to come to mind for me: Darrell Whitmore- flip over wall in right field foul territory Scott Pose, Opening Day 1993- diving catch in triangle Jeff Conine, 2003 NLDS- quick scoop and throw home to Pudge who holds on after getting knocked down by JT Snow to advance to NLCS Those are the ones that stood out in my mind. What others should be considered???
August 7, 200619 yr definitely the Conine play, and possibly the Sheffield catch in the 97 WS in Cleveland I hope they dont use Lowell's hidden ball trick as one of them
August 7, 200619 yr definitely the Conine play, and possibly the Sheffield catch in the 97 WS in Cleveland I hope they dont use Lowell's hidden ball trick as one of them i could see them doing something stupid like that
August 7, 200619 yr Bryan Harvey closing out any of his 45 saves in 1993, sporting two days growth, hat brim curled like the Carolina farmer he was, making fools of the best in baseball while the baby Marlins stood around and watched in awe. Or Joe Strong's one night of brilliance that capped what was it twenty years in the minors, when he came, somehow turned in King Kong, and struck out the side. Then there's Jack McKeon's call to arms the night before game six in 2003, when he told Beckett he was giving him the ball as almost the entire national media said he was crazy. The comeback in Boston in the second game in 2003. Ahhh, there's so many... (edit: oops, Web Gems, took it generically as great moments in the history of the franchise. My bad.)
August 7, 200619 yr One that always comes to mind for me is Niner's catch against the Phillies in September. Marlins were only up by 2(I think) and Thome hammered one to left. Niner robs a homer and then doubles off someone from first or second. Was a big game because if they lose Marlins are out of the wild card lead.

August 7, 200619 yr definitely the Conine play, and possibly the Sheffield catch in the 97 WS in Cleveland I hope they dont use Lowell's hidden ball trick as one of them I hope they use BOTH of the hidden ball tricks. F***ing brilliant. And my vote for the #1 web gem is the Conine to Pudge in 2003 NLDS. I love how Pudge cradles the ball in the air as JT Snow buries his head in the dirt. There are so many fantastic Gonzo/Castillo double plays that its hard to watch our current middle infield sometimes
August 8, 200619 yr this probably is a relatively meaningless play, but I remember in 05 (though it may have been 04), I'm pretty sure in Houston...Juan Pierre made a diving catch where his face planted and when he came back up, he was literally spitting out grass...I love that one... but yes, Conine/Pudge in the NLCS is definitely number 1 because of the meaning it has to the ballclub's championship success...
August 8, 200619 yr When are they doing this? anyone know? You just miss it, it was at 9 pm EST :whistle

August 8, 200619 yr Author When are they doing this? anyone know? Sunday, they did Phillies. Today, they did Braves. Tomorrow, they're doing Nationals/Expos. I'd imagine Marlins are up either Wednesday or Thursday then.
August 8, 200619 yr Remember Chuck Carr? Say what you will about his defense (I know he always missed the cut-off man and was a bit wild out there), but he made some spectacular catches. I particularly remember one he made in the inaugural year with the bases loaded late in the game: he dove, catching the ball with his arm stretched over his head. Unbelievable catch. If any of you guys have the 1993 year in review video, a segment was made called "Chuck Carr's Top 10 Catches of '93."
August 8, 200619 yr There are so many fantastic Gonzo/Castillo double plays that its hard to watch our current middle infield sometimes There definitely has to be some Seabass/Louie flash in there!
August 8, 200619 yr YOu get the feeling that because this is ESPN, Bartman will be a top web gem for us. Anyway, some real web gems deserving: Dontrelle will be on there at some point. He has had some ridiculous plays. Mike Jacobs into the seats? Dunno Preston Wilson slamming into the ivy woulda been great...if he held on (he didn't, right?)
August 8, 200619 yr Preston Wilson slamming into the ivy woulda been great...if he held on (he didn't, right?) no, he definitely didnt... and my old car's radio knob was never the same
August 8, 200619 yr What about Amazega's catch a couple of weeks ago ? That was about as spectacular as they come. My vote for all-time would be Conine's throw to Pudge against the Giants to end game 4 and win the series. If we don't win that game I feel we'd never have won that WS in 2003. Surely ESPN will use Bartman, you just feel it in your gut.
