Junior Seau Signs With New England, Postpones Retirement

I hope when he actually does retire the Chargers don't deal with his shenanigans again.

I'm kind of astounded at the extent to which this bothers people. I don't get it at all. What's it to any of us whether or not he retires?

The way some folks are reacting it sounds to me like when he retired, the NFL dropped a bucket of candy at your doorstep, and when he came back the NFL returned to take your candy away. Short of that, I can't imagine the source of this anger toward him. And I'm not just talking about people here...I'm talking about over at finheaven and on the radio too.

I'm happy for him that he gets to play another year. It's clear that he didn't WANT to retire...he just wasn't getting any job offers.

I think he's lame for going into this whole shpiel. Personally, I'm more worried about him sharing the Dolphins plays with the Patriots than I am with his ability which have declined significantly.

What don't you get dude? Are you a Dolphins fan? Seau to the Patriots. That should explain it all. Picking from our team. The sad thing is Seau will have his best game against the Phins just like Heath Evans did against them last year.

Look I understand what he did but if in fact he never wanted to retire in the first place then why not just suck it up and wait around for someone to pick you up. Not go through a whole freakin ceremony claiming your "graduating" and making a big to do.

Let him go to the Patsies. He is past his prime and hasn't played a full season since 2001. I find it hard to believe he will have some miraculous bounce back season.

A) He waited around for half of training camp.

B) I don't really consider Seau a Dolphin, so for him to go to a so-called rival doesn't bother me.

C) I don't really consider the Pats our rival. That'd be the Jets and Bills. Even if they both suck right now.

D) He's not that good, so it's not worth worrying about. This is more a sign of the poor shape of New England's LB crew right now.

C) I don't really consider the Pats our rival. That'd be the Jets and Bills. Even if they both suck right now.

You don't consider the team that has dominated our division for years a rival? :mischief2

Nope. Not really. They're a rival, in a sense, in the same way that NC State and Duke are rivals, but are they OUR RIVAL? It's not even close. There's very little history between the two teams.

The Jets are the clear #1 rival, the Bills are the clear #2, and the Pats are #3 basically by default. Just because the Pats have been the best team in the division for the last 5 years doesn't somehow elevate them to a major rival, especially considering that we haven't even been good enough to crack the playoffs for the last 4 years. Rivalries are about far more than the periodic rises and falls in team's fortunes.

I agreed with everything Mabdul said about Seau except I think the Patriots are huge rivals of ours. I would even consider the Colts to be big rivals for the Dolphins.

Either way you slice it, they're a rival of the Dolphins.

I'm trying not to dilute the meaning of the term. I have room in my brain for one, maybe two, rivals for each team. I suppose it's all semantics, though. Rival or not, it doesn't bother me that Junior chose to go there over any other team (not that it was actually his choice anyway).

It would have been much worse if he went to the Jets or Bills but this still hurts. Not to mention that he's spitting on the Chargers and the city of San Diego, where I currently reside and follow the Chargers loosely.
