October 5, 200619 yr I don't know but it seems to me when Cabrera hit fourth with Hanley, Uggla and Jacobs in front of him, we were our most productive. Certainly Jacobs profited by it. If Jacobs hadn't become a walking wounded I think he probably would have stayed there. From my perspective the problem is getting someone to hit BEHIND Cabrera not who hits in front. was gonna post this, but then when i was writing out the line-up, i didnt know who the big bat would be (and what position he would fill) so i gave up. Jake was hitting like .400 when he was in front of cabs. its worth having a "hole" (Ross) at the end of the lineup if the front is going to produce like crazy.

And not coincidentally Uggla came to life when he moved in front of Cabrera.
October 5, 200619 yr Hanley Uggla Jacobs Cabrera Willingham Is our best line-up when healthy, IMO. We never really got to see it that often this year as either Jake was injured or Hammer was benched for a while. Of course it could all change when/if we acquire another bat.
October 5, 200619 yr With this season under their belts, I am hoping Uggla and/or Jacobs don't need to rely on hitting in front of Cabrera in 2007 to perform at or near the level they did this year. I'd expect Uggla to suffer more than Jacobs without Cabrera's protection, but I still think Uggla could hit .270-.280 with 20-25 HR without his protection in 2007. I just would like to see Hermida get a chance in 2007 at batting leadoff and maybe turn into an OBP machine that we all hoped he would turn into this season. Plus Hanley will be able to take advantage of batting in the coveted spot before Miguel and drive in more runs. If it doesn't work out, we can always go back to the Ramirez, Uggla, Cabrera order that we went with most of this season.

And I don't even think that Hanley is the ideal leadoff hitter. i'd be willing to take the risk of bringing him back. he didn't have an AWFUL year last year... it wasn't great, but it wasn't too bad. i think he's gonna go back to the juan we all know and love... especially if we bring him back. Problem was at his best, the Juan we ALL (yes, me too, he's too exciting not to love) know and love wasn't a great player. He excelled in one or two or three categories and was terrible at everything else. Your best overall hitter goes third because he hits directly behind (in theory) your 2 best on base guys and as a bonus gets more plate appearances over a season than a "cleanup hitter." Batting 3rd is the new cleanup. True although there's evidence[, that no baseball man will consider,] that the 2nd spot should be for your best hitter, 3rd for a slugger with questionable OBP abilities and 4th for a slugger with good OBP abilities. P.S. My lineup would be: Hermida, Hanley, Uggla, Cabrera, Jacobs, Willingham, CF /&/ Olivo

Batting 3rd is the new cleanup. Agreed. Please FO bring us Chris Denorfia. Hes got great make up, and even better plate discipline and his defense would be sterling. His "tools" aren't amazing but put it all together and you get a solid ball player and a perfect 1 or 2 hitter. Youkillis-lite with better base running instincts and speed.
