October 23, 200620 yr @ (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers shoot for their fourth consecutive win tonight when they visit the Florida Panthers at the BankAtlantic Center for the back end of a home-and-home. The Thrashers are the early leaders in the Southeast Division with 13 points, and they are only three back of red-hot Buffalo in the Eastern Conference. On Saturday, Marian Hossa scored two goals to give Atlanta a 4-2 victory over the Panthers at Philips Arena. Kari Lehtonen made 18 saves and Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who have won six of their last seven games overall. Hossa is tied with Buffalo's Chris Drury for the NHL lead at nine goals, and is one behind the Sabres' Maxim Afinogenov for the scoring lead with 13 points. The Thrashers begin a five-game road trip tonight and will visit Carolina on Wednesday. Chris Gratton and Joe Nieuwendyk each had a goal and Alexander Auld stopped 20 shots for the Panthers, who have dropped three of their last four games. The Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the second period, but did keep the game close until the latter stages of the third. Hossa clinched the match with an empty- netter in the waning moments. Florida's Todd Bertuzzi missed Saturday's tilt with back spasms and is day-to- day. The Cats will open a three-game road trip on Wednesday in New York against the Rangers. Atlanta has already defeated Florida twice this season, and the Thrashers are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall.

October 24, 200620 yr Author This team is such a roller-coaster that it's insane. Everytime I look at Ilya, I see Pavel Bure.
October 24, 200620 yr 2-1 after one. Great first period from the Cats. Too bad Keri Lehtonen plays goalie for the Thrashers or it probably be at least 3-1 right now.
