By Chip Haunss / Special to MLB.com

Edgar Gonzalez, who got off to a slow start with the Venados de Mazatlan of the Mexican Pacific League, has turned things around of late. The 28-year-old second baseman has hit safely in seven straight games, dating to Nov. 1.

He is 10-for-29 over that span with two homers, six RBIs and six runs scored.

Gonzalez's had his best game on Tuesday, when he went 2-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs and two Runs scored. The San Diego native is batting .264 with 14 runs scored and 10 RBIs in 24 games.

Here is how the rest of the Marlins prospects fared in the various fall and winter leagues:

Hawaii Winter Baseball

RHP Rich Vanden Hurk -- The 21-year-old made his fifth start for the Waikiki BeachBoys on Saturday against Honolulu. The 6-foot-5 righty allowed five hits, fanned seven and walked two in five scoreless innings, but did not factor in the decision. He is 1-2 with a 5.19 ERA in seven games for the BeachBoys.

1B/3B Grant Psomas -- The 24-year-old's season-long slump continued for Waikiki. He is 1-for-12 over his last four games and 4-for-36, with just one RBI since Oct. 14. On the season, Psomas is batting .148 with three RBIs and two runs scored in 17 games.

Peoria Javelinas

RHP Scott Tyler -- The 24-year-old reliever has appeared in two games over the last week. He tossed a perfect inning on Friday against the Saguaros, but was roughed up by Peoria on Wednesday. Tyler allowed three runs on three hits while striking out one in one inning. The Philadelphia native is 1-0 with one save and a 7.59 ERA in 10 games.

LHP Adam Bostick -- The 23-year-old made his fifth start on Wednesday. He allowed three runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out five and walked two. The 6-foot-1 lefty is pitching to a 5.09 ERA without a decision in five starts.

RHP Scott Nestor -- The 22-year-old was roughed up by Phoenix on Friday after back-to-back scoreless appearances. He surrendered three runs on one hit and two walks with one strikeout while retiring two batters. Nestor bounced back on Thursday after allowing a hit and striking out one in two scoreless frames against Grand Canyon. He is 0-1 with a 19.13 ERA in eight games for the Javelinas.

LHP Matt Yourkin -- Yourkin appeared in one game over the last week. He yielded one hit and a walk in 1 1/3 scoreless innings against Phoenix on Monday. The 24-year-old has collected a 5.63 ERA in seven games without a decision.

1B Gaby Sanchez -- After a 1-for-10 stretch over a three-game span early this week, Sanchez has bounced back with two strong games. The former fourth-round pick went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on Wednesday. He followed that up with a 2-for-4 day on Thursday. The Miami native is batting .289 with one home run, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored in 23 games for the Javelinas.

RF Brett Carroll -- Carroll has not appeared in a game since Nov. 2. The former 10th-round pick is batting .302 with three home runs, 11 RBIs and six runs scored.

2B Brian Cleveland -- The 23-year-old was removed from the Javelinas' roster on Nov. 2.

Venezuelan Winter League

RHP Mauro Zarate -- Zarate has appeared in two games over the last week for Leones del Caracas. He yielded two runs -- one earned -- on two hits over 2 2/3 innings on Nov. 2. The 23-year-old allowed one run on five hits over 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday. He is 1-1 with a 6.52 ERA in seven games.

Kool-Aid is playing for Carolina in the Puerto Rican Winter League. They have probably playe their 4th or 5th game tonite. I follow the League religiosly but I am yet able to get Stats or any Boxscores, I can tell you this much, he is batting 3rd on a very good hitting team. He has had a few RBIs already. I will update further as soon as i find anything

Thanks for the info. I just hope Reggie produces enough to make the 25 in '07 even if he's a 4th outfielder. Also the Carolina site is offline.

If Reggie makes the 07 squad, Beinfest flat out failed in the offseason.

I was able to obtain stats in reference to the Puertorican Winter League. As I said before Reggie Abercrombie is on a very good hitting team. After 6 games His Team batting average is .305...Kool-Aid has had a bit of a slow start, he is hitting .200 with a double and a triple in 25 AB

Let's be honest, the Fish have virtually no quality hitting prospects in the minors. So you can write that side off.

Plus, the pitchers we sent were not our best (except for MAYBE Bostick).

I wouldn't worry too much.
