Joe Borowski

How would Joe be classifed as a Free Agent? (Type I/II)? I was just wondering what type of draft compensation we would receive (if any).

Thanks!! And since the new CBA does not take draft compensation into effect until 2007, I guess we're still eligible to receive 2 picks in the first round? (Team that signs Joe and a sandwich pick)? Correct me if I'm wrong...

That's correct. The changes will effect the 2008 draft. Type C's will be eliminated for compensation while the designations of what makes up a Type A or B will change. Type A's, now the top 30%, will be limited to the top 20% next year while Type B's will go from 31-50% to 21-40%.

Mainly because the Elias Rankings reward quantity not quality as it relies on a number of counting stats including plate appearances and innings pitched.

is there a list? I'd guess JoBo is our only FA worthy of comp picks...Sounds like the Indians want him. that's a decent 1st rounder and a sammich pick!

This might have been changed with the new CBA from last year, but any pick in the top 15 is not eligible to be given away as comp. We would receive only a sandwich pick. These are the teams we'd want to sign JO-BO:

16. Texas Rangers

17. Houston Astros

18. St. Louis Cardinals

19. Philadelphia Phillies

20. Boston Red Sox

21. Toronto Blue Jays

22. Los Angeles Dodgers

23. San Diego Padres

24. Los Angeles Angels

25. Chicago White Sox

26. Oakland Athletics

27. Detroit Tigers

28. Minnesota Twins

29. New York Mets

30. New York Yankees

damn. thanks for the info. I doubt any of those would surrender a first pick to sign JoBo. Last I heard the Indians were the favorites to land JoBo to fill the closer role.

The Indians and Giants have joined the Phillies, Blue Jays and Red Sox among teams interested in signing free agent Joe Borowski.

Cleveland might have an advantage here. Indians GM Mark Shapiro is the son of Borowski's agent, Ron Shapiro.

Let's hope for the Phillies or Blue Jays. :thumbup

BTW though: don't we have to offer arbitration to Joe-Bo in order to receive compensation ? Have we or will we ?

If we don't offer arbitration we don't get the compensatory picks and I would be very surprised if we offer Borowski (or Helms) arbitration so I don't see us getting compensatory picks.
