Mets sign Easley, tighten up bench

The Mets, moving to reinforce their bench, have agreed to terms with free agent infielder Damion Easley on a one-year $850,000 contract, FOXSports.com has learned.

 

Easley, 37, is expected to fill the role played last season by Chris Woodward.

 

He spent last season with the Diamondbacks, batting .233 in 90 games.

 

Easley, a 15-year veteran, can play every position but pitcher and catcher. With the Diamondbacks he was mainly used at short stop and third base.

I miss Easley. He was a very useful player, could do a lot of things for the team.

good decent pickup. Nothing major, but will help, and pose a threat.

He always seems to have one day a year where he turns into Babe Ruth. And that one day is probably worth the $850K in itself.

I'm sure he could have. It's pretty early in the off-season, and there are other teams that will be looking for guys like him come mid-January, but Easley went to the best team in the NL for a reason.

 

And let's not forget, this is also a former All-Star that was considered absolutely finished before his ST Invite success with the Marlins. Picture Brett Boone coming back in a year and contributing on teams consistently. That's the kind of come back Easley has made.
