New Iraq Poll

Featured Replies

I say that yes, Iraq has been in a civil war for several months now, at the very least.

I would also have to think that we need to begin plans for a withdrawal pretty soon. Unless someone comes up with a magic plan from out of nowhere....

Iraq is not in a civil war due to the fact that the ISF's are not split along religious lines, and the government is working together, albeit not a good government. When the government splits along religious lines and so do the ISF's then you will have a civil war.

I think that we should send more troops to Iraq, and it is possible to do so. I think that we need to send more troops to Iraq so that we take a tough stance on terrorism and stand up to it, if you send another 50,000 troops to Iraq, and put them in a more active role in the fight against the insurgency we can still succed in Iraq. It also sends a strong signal to Syria and Iran that we are not playing.

Good point on the split in government. Though at this pace don't you think it's bound to happen?

Either way, fixing our mess would be the right thing to do.

I think it may happen, in fact I think that we are very close.

But fixing the mess that we have made and the Iraqis have made is the right thing to do. We must be able to leave Iraq knowing that it can secure itself, govern itself, and protect itself. We must bring our troops home in victory and not in defeat.

At what point does stubbornly trying to fix things just make things worse? At what point have we become an occupying force? What happens when a good size population of the Iraqi people turn against us if they havent already? Simplying things into good vs. evil, doing the job right, and other broad axioms only got us into this mess in the first place.

Victory over defeat? How can you see things in such simple terms?

Get rid of the Middle East or build a huge barrier to seperate them from the rest of the world. Just leave them alone and have them leave us alone. If they would rather live in the middle ages than the modern era that's their own damn problem.

This is parallelling Vietnam in a few ways:

-U.S. is backing a weak government

-No clear operational plan, for withdrawal or success

-Our soldiers caught in the middle of a civil war

-No good ways out of this situation

-Human rights abuses on both sides, at some point of the conflict (specifically Abu Ghraib)

-U.S. government is waiting too long to make a move, either increase forces or retreat

-Outside forces influencing the conflict (Communists/foreign Jihadists)

-U.S. government is waiting too long to make a move, either increase forces or retreat

They just increased troop levels by 25,000.

Where are you getting this from? I've heard that MAYBE they will send 3500 troops.

As Wayne Downing (retired General) just said on MSNBC, all the U.S. troops we can throw at that country aren't going to be enough to solve the problem.

ding ding ding ding...we have a winner here folks...this is exactly what should have been done in the first place...leave them the hell alone...the middle east is a bee hive and we continue to throw to rocks at it...seriously...i hope we impeach the mofo for being a lying dumbass

Yea, that's a great idea. Forget their oil too. We can afford it.

I must admit I admire the talent that Conservatives have for simplifying everything.

Well, life is extremely simple really. We just have a knack of over complicating it for whatever reason, and then it must be interpreted through a complicated looking glass. It really is simple, though.
