December 23, 200619 yr Sources told the Dallas Morning News that the Rangers have acquired Brandon McCarthy from the White Sox for John Danks and Nick Masset. Wow. There will also be a couple of lesser prospects exchanged. The White Sox had previously been after both Danks and Masset in a Jon Garland trade. This is far a better trade for the Rangers. McCarthy isn't far away from being a better pitcher than Garland and he's five years away from free agency. Garland, on the other hand, is due $22 million over the next two years before he becomes a free agent. The White Sox are getting a couple of talented arms here, but this is the third trade Ken Williams has made this winter that we're not fond of. Dec. 23 - 2:24 pm et Source: Dallas Morning News http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines.aspx?sport=MLB that was surprising indeed.
December 23, 200619 yr This is an absolutely HORRIBLE trade for the White Sox. John Danks is overrated big time. McCarthy is going to be a good pitcher for years! 23 years old! Wow, the Rangers are really improving in a hurry.
December 23, 200619 yr Looks like an awful trade for the ChiSox, wasnt the whole point in trading Garcia to make a position in the rotation for McCarthy? Will they give Floyd a chance or is someone else in line for the fifth starter slot?
December 23, 200619 yr this doesn't make sense..maybe the sox will then spin those prospects to another team?
December 23, 200619 yr I dont know who Danks or Masset are...but McCarthy is going to be a pretty damn good pitcher. Good move by Texas.
December 23, 200619 yr Author Man, I hope this means they are out of the Zito sweepstakes. they are still in it. They offered him a 6/80 milion dollar deal. They needed 2 spots filled and just filled 1 spot. PS you need to update your signature.

Seriously only a mets fan would try :whistle It would be kewl for him to do a reyes vote count towards MVP (and projections next year) and all.
December 24, 200619 yr Not a bad deal for the sox just a puzzling one. Ozzie didn't like McCarthy and that has been documented on a couple of occasions. Danks has more upside than McCarthy and hes left handed to boot and hes initially struggled at every level but has gone on to make the adjustments and his ARB clock hasn't started yet. Masset is the difference maker, in the BP he has been hitting 97-98 consistently, and hes a tick below Jenks and a bit ahead of MacDougal in terms of "stuff". With his addition the white sox BP is now incredibly cheap deep and nasty (provided they can find the strike zone) but i think Sisco/Aardsma/Masett will improve greatly under Don Cooper he has a propensity for fixing power arms. As for the 5th starter it appears its going to be a battle royal in ST between Haeger and Floyd being the front runners with Broadway and Phillips having out side shots. I'm very PRO Haeger hes 23yrs old and already has command of the toughest class of pitch, he could very well become as good as the Niekro brothers, it should be a very interesting season on the southside. this also gives the sox a bit of inside when attempting to sign John's brother.
