HISTORY TO BE MADE TONIGHT ON JEOPARDY?

 

 

The Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday that it had received a notice from Jeff Ritter, the senior publicist for Jeopardy!, reading, "This Friday, March 16th, 2007 ... and for the first time in 23 years, Jeopardy! history will be made. I was such a remarkable event we consulted a game-theory expert, and he said it may never happen again!" The newspaper's TV writer, Hal Boedeker, said that Ritter would provide no further details and by this morning (Friday), Sony television, which distributes Jeopardy!, had replaced the announcement with an error message under its own logo reading, "Sorry, the page you requested was not found. The page may have been moved, or the link could be outdated."

 

 

Did someone answer every question right maybe? Is that possible?

A contestant said "Kebert Xela" and Alex Trebek was sent back to the fifth dimension.

Three-way tie maybe? The fact that they consulted a game theory expert makes me think it has something to do with Final Jeopardy.

That was actually kinda lame. The guy who was in the lead would have won outright had he just wagered $1 more on Final Jeopardy!

No, it was a 3-way tie

Sheesh, I thought maybe Trebek was going to get a phone number.

I don't understand why he left open the possibility of a tie. I guess the obvious answer is that he screwed up.

i mean, doesn't really make sense why he would have bet EXACTLY that.

the guy on the left definitely knew what he was doing. and trebek seemed to be in on it also.

it makes sense cause he knew that the best either of his opponents could do was $16,000.

 

if he gets it right, in that scenario, he ties, still gets his money, still gets to come back.

 

 

 

he could have bet the extra dollar to put him at $16,001 if he got it right, but perhaps did not feel confident in the category, and so, did not want to lose the extra dollar if he got it wrong.

What would the motive for fixing it be?

it makes sense cause he knew that the best either of his opponents could do was $16,000.

Yeah thats the confusing part. The only thing I can think of is maybe he figures since he was beating them by over 5,000 going into Final, that if he fixed so they come back he could just beat them again instead of risking facing 2 new contestants

if he gets it wrong, the extra dollar he didn't bet makes him lose one less dollar, and help his chances by that margin.

On the next episode the night after, Trebek said that when they went to commerical a kid in the crowd asked if they ever had a 3 way tie and that the champion overheard them talking and made his wager accordingly.
