The Braves and Brian McCann have agreed to a six-year contract that includes a team option for a seventh season.

The deal has the potential to buy out two of McCann's free-agent seasons and is reportedly worth up to $29.8 million. McCann will be arbitration-eligible for the first time in 2009.

I love when organizations know what to do with their young up and coming players.

Money is a nice thing for a baseball club to have.

Nah, more like common sense.

If you can't afford to give a young player $30 million over 7 years, you have no business owning a professional sports team.

great move for the braves, mccann's the real deal and could turn out to be one of the great catchers of this generation if this keeps up. too bad he gets overshadowed by his best buddy jeff francoeur (with his k's and lack of walks) in atlanta, who was hyped up like crazy. i think he was eligible for arbitration next year...but whatever, he's going to be in his hometown for many years to come, unless ownership gets stupid around here.

^^^^^ What he said

Why do that for a great young player when you can wait for them to get to arbitration and then try to give them the least amount of money possible? :shrugs

Well I can't argue there.
