July 9, 200719 yr Man, I just got done dealing with a pain in the ass virus. Something called NewMediaCodecInstaller.exe. Thank goodness I downloaded Safari a few weeks ago. Not wanting to wait until I got to work, I had to get online and find out how to get rid of the thing, but the clever program locked me out of Firefox and wouldn't let me change from their page in IE. Fortuneately, it didn't do anything to Safari. Unfortunately, in getting everything fixed, I ended up losing all of my bookmarks and extentions.
July 9, 200719 yr Yeah, I had a friend that had the Zlob virus. I had to help him get rid of it, such a bitch. Had to do a bunch of registry editing and such to totally eliminate it.
July 9, 200719 yr Well, the program seemed to want me to "buy" some anti-virus software. Although I'm not 100% sure, as far as I can tell from looking at other message boards, it doesn't seem to have a keystroke logger (not that I entered anything important after I got it), so I should be safe. The little bastard went undetected by Norton and Ad-Aware. Ended up downloading some no-name removers that the virus wasn't protected against.
July 9, 200719 yr Yep, same thing happened to him. His homepage and any new tab he opened was some fake anti-virus software.
