July 21, 200719 yr He is supposed to be talking about notable deals the Marlins have made in July the Cubs guy lists Nomar and McGriff, the Mets with Robbie Alomar and Matt Lawton, the Gaints with Jason Schmidt you get the idea... link here's what "our" guy picks... The deal: Searching for a veteran closer was the primary objective since the 2006 season ended and Joe Borowski signed as a free agent with the Indians. The Marlins felt they found their answer when they obtained Jorge Julio from the Diamondbacks on March 26 for right-hander Yusmeiro Petit. The move didn't pan out, as Julio never got into a groove. He came to the Marlins with 99 career saves and exited with the same amount. The deal: Unable to find success in his short stint in Florida, Julio was traded to the Rockies on May 17 for veteran Byung-Hyun Kim. With some starters injured at the time, the Marlins added Kim to the rotation. The veteran right-hander also has experience relieving and closing. But his primary role has been to start. At this stage of his career, Kim is being counted on to consistently pitch into the sixth inning. Anything more than that is a bonus. The deal: Reports that Armando Benitez could be headed back to Florida started at the Winter Meetings last December. They continued through Spring Training, and on May 31, Benitez was dealt to Florida from San Francisco for reliever Randy Messenger. Benitez is in his second stint with the Marlins. In 2004, he set a franchise record with 47 saves. Benitez has 289 career saves, but his role now has been setting up Kevin Gregg. Effective for the most part in the eighth inning, Benitez has dealt with some lower back tightness. What laziness.
July 21, 200719 yr Maybe he's building up a story....now we'll trade Kim and Benitez for ???? LOL. He obviously missed on of the biggest july trades in which we got Urbina in 2003 for our World series run, or the fact that we got LoDuca, Mota and Encarnacion in 2004 for a run at the wild card.
July 21, 200719 yr In 04 the Marlins also picked up Iamael Valdes and Rudy Seanez and 05 they traded for Villone, also who can forget when they traded Dempster and floyd in July of 20002
July 21, 200719 yr *EDIT* I just realized what I said, and it was stupid. Well at least he could have included better trades that we made.
July 21, 200719 yr that's gotta be a joke, apparently he forgot about that little thing called winning the world series in 2003 and then trying to get back again in 04
