I'm taking off from work early more or less to see this. 82% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this morning and Ebert gave it 4 stars (out of 4). Can't wait.

I can't believe there wasn't a thread made on this movie before today. Fox, I have you beat. I'm seeing it on the first screening at my local theater this afternoon.

:o

Awesome.

Yeah, I too was surprised.

It's got some tough competition at the box office with Shoot 'Em Up taking some of it's audience away.

I'm sure it'll be a great movie. And I want to see it. But it's funny how Russel Crowe and Cristian Bale keep getting American roles.

Great actors, though.

Saw this a couple of days ago. Actually the first movie I'd seen in several weeks.

I thought it was okay.

Same. I made the "mistake" of catching the original on Starz Western first. I think my biggest problem with the remake is I didn't believe the ending.

In the original, I understand why Wade jumps on the train and helps out Dan. In the remake, what are we supposed to think? Wade was actually a good guy the whole time despite all the cold blooded killing they show in this version? It was weird.

Overall, it's an okay movie. I'll give it a 2.5-3/5.

I don't think you followed the logic.

a) He got to know Dan and his son and respected them. Because Dan wanted to be a hero to son, Wade throws him a bone.

but he never would have agreed to it if he hadn't

b) known that he could escape from the prison, which he obviously would do because he had done it 3 previous times.

Oh I followed the logic - but it was so out of character that it didn't make sense. That was my point. In the original, Wade's character has left open the possibility that he isn't "rotten to the core." He shoots the coach driver in what he considered self defense, for example. In this one, Wade's character is a cold blooded killer. Period. It doesn't make sense that he is going to risk his life and then kill his whole posse out of rage because he "respects" Dan and wants him to be a hero to his son. It's too out there for the character they created in this story. I think they tried to tie this back in to how Wade was left behind by his mother and never had a hero, but that story line wasn't strong enough to obtain buy-in.

But I could be wrong. That's just one man's opinion.

Ah I see, I never watched the original, but that does make sense.

Yeah, I've never been a big fan of the spaghetti western, but the original is worth a peek. It is quite different from the remake in a LOT of ways.

3:10 to Yuma tries to be an intimate film but contentwise I have trouble finding plausibility in the motivations of the characters. In essence, this is not a John Ford film.

My thoughts EXACTLY.
