Marlins continue Mets set on FOX

09/22/2007 2:48 AM ET

By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

Sloppy play on a soggy day led to a rough Friday for the Marlins.

Now, after defensive slipups led to Scott Olsen being victimized by eight unearned runs, the Marlins and Mets have split the first two of their four-game set.

On Saturday, the teams will hook up in a nationally televised game on FOX, with the Mets still 1 1/2 games ahead of the Phillies in the National League East.

Florida sends Byung-Hyun Kim to the mound to face the Mets for the 15th time in his career. The right-hander is 1-4 with a 5.34 ERA against New York, but of those outings, just three were as a starter.

At home, Kim is 5-3 with a 5.92 ERA, 61 strikeouts and 43 walks.

The native of South Korea has consistently kept his club in games, but his last start turned out to be the roughest outing of his career. He allowed a personal high of nine earned runs in a loss at Atlanta.

The Mets are going with lefty Oliver Perez, who has a 2-2 career mark vs. the Marlins.

Pitching matchup

NYM: LHP Oliver Perez (14-9, 3.43 ERA)

Perez was betrayed by poor defense and poor control last Sunday, walking six and allowing three unearned runs (five total) to the Phillies. He's now allowed 19 unearned runs on the season. His six free passes were the most since he walked seven batters in his second start of the year. In two starts against the Marlins this season, Perez is 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA.

FLA: RHP Byung-Hyun Kim (9-7, 6.06 ERA)

For the most part, Kim has given the Marlins a chance to win. His last start was a rare exception, as he allowed a career-high nine runs on nine hits with three hit batters in a four-plus-inning outing at Atlanta. His ERA rose roughly a half run. Kim had worked at least five innings in three straight starts, but that streak was snapped at Turner Field. He also had a string of three consecutive decisions won come to an end. Kim has not faced the Mets this season.

Player to watch

Miguel Cabrera committed two errors on Friday, but the four-time All-Star also had three hits and two RBIs. He now has 111 RBIs on the season.

On TV

I hate 3:55 starts. Why the hell start a game 5 minutes BEFORE the hour.

I'll be there, and hopefully you will too.

I'm going in my custom Marlins jersey, in which I have the number 4.

I will take my Marlins hat, which has been overused over the past year and a half.

I might wear a 2003 WS Shirt under the jersey.

Too bad I don't have pinstriped pants like the marlins do sometimes :(

I am Jewish and I support Green's decision last night...hypocritical is the wrong word, but it is not being a good Jew
