In all honesty, I would be overjoyed at seeing a salary cap implemented.

If they were to do it, current contracts would be "grandfathered" in and wouldn't count against the cap. This would prevent too many stars from being forced into leaving the cities they play for.

Then, the spending limits would be set for each team at a reasonable level only slightly higher than the MLB average team's payroll.

The overall effect of this payroll limitation is to ultimately drive down players' worth because no team in baseball would be able to afford Arod at his current salary which means that even the best player in baseball would be worth less.

The overall effect of this would be to make smart trades and a solid farm team absolutely paramount to determining a team's success.

Would this hurt the "Evil Empire" known as the Yankees - the ultimate "target" of the aforementioned salary cap? Will this destroy dynasties in baseball? Not likely. As previously stated, the Yankees start the most players in baseball who have never played for another team. If players' salaries aren't inflated, it becomes easier to retain home-grown talent. It also means that Steinbrenner will be able to keep more of his money. Ah communism... where the system benefits and the people work their tails off to support it...

Basically, you would be setting up a fantasy baseball scenario for keeper leagues.
