5:30 left in the first period, 2-0 Panthers. Goals by Horton (PP) and Olesz.

And Vokoun just STONED Lecavalier (or however you spell it) on a shorthanded breakaway!

ANOTHER EDIT: Weiss scores!!! 3-0 Cats!

Crazy third period. 4-1 us at the start of the third.

Cats score first to get to 5-1, then the Blightning get 3 in 3 minutes to make it 5-4, and Olli just scored on a 5-on-3 to make it 6-4, good guys. Still 6:30 to go.

Geez, this game just got out of control.

The Panthers played a great game with the exception of about 5 minutes in the 3rd period. Good to see all of the scoring chances the Panthers were getting in the first 3 games are starting to turn into goals. Good work by Vokoun. He faced 44 shots, gave up 4, but none were particuarly bad goals, just a momentary defensive collapse in the 3rd. Now it's off to Canada, let's bring back 2 or 3 W's.

Got a little worried there in the 3rd period and after the first 10 minutes the shots on goal disparity got a bit ridiculous. Good first game to go to this year, lets get to 3-3

Tonight's Panthers game against the Lightning was a chance for the Panthers to redeem their loss against the Lightning last Wednesday. Boy, did they ever. Six goals scored by the Panthers almost doubled the entire season's output by the team so far. Olli scored once and added two assists. Nathan Horton, Stephen Weiss, and Ruslan Salei all had a goal and assist. Jozef Stumpel and Richard Zednik scored the other two goals. Cory Murphy added two assists.

Several reasons for optimism after the continuing improvement of play:

-Goals are being scored because of playing in the garbage zone in front of the net.

-The defense continues to add an offensive dimension to the scoring.

-Tomas Vokoun continued to show why the Panthers traded for him.

-The defense, save for a 5 minute period in the Third period, collapsed very strongly around the net and kept most of the shots out of the slot and pushed them to boards.

-Special teams are special. The Panthers wasted no time capitalizing on the two 5 on 3s that sealed the game for them. The Penalty Killing unit was also superb, killing off a 5 on 3 of their own.

Overall, the team played a very strong game. But they have yet to really complete a game in all facets. This is very near, as shown by the continuing improvement in play.

Panthers Three Stars of the game:

1st Star, Olli Jokinen: What more can you say about the Panthers captain? He continues to show why he is an incredible talent. One goal and two assists on the night led the Panthers on the scoring sheet.

2nd Star, Nathan Horton: Nathan, Nathan, Nathan. His game opening goal brought life to the crowd at the Bank Atlantic Center. His superb skating ability and power showed late in the first when he created space all on his own and created an odd man rush with Stephen Weiss, who put a patient Horton's layup into the back of the net.

3rd Star, Cory Murphy: The Smurph just keeps getting better and better. Another multipoint game and we are only five games in. He is something special.
