Posted October 24, 200717 yr Thinking of getting it. Does anyone else have it? What are the biggest complaints? I can record multiple shows at one time, right? Record a series?
October 24, 200717 yr Its not that great, but does its job. Not alot of storage for hd shows, you can record 2 shows at once but not series pass like tivo you have to set record this show this time and day.
October 25, 200717 yr Isn't it only $5 bucks a month or so? Maybe $10 at the most. Seems like the main issue is storage space, but if you are looking for some recording device it is certainly acceptable for the cost.  It's more than that because they soak you an extra $9.95 per DVR box. I am still happy. I would love to be able to record some of the movies on to my DVD recorder but so far, I can't seem to get past that pesky copyright infringement rule....
October 25, 200717 yr Author Thanks for the advice everyone. I called comcast and they said it costs 14 dollars a month and that includes the box. The price is fine with me. I just want to see if it provides the services that make Tivo great.
October 25, 200717 yr Author Why not just get an actual TiVo? Don't have the $250 to plop down in one full swoop on a box. Plus don't you have to make a year commitment if you want to do it monthly? I don't want to make the commitment and with Comcast, I can cancel after 1 month if I feel like it.
October 25, 200717 yr Yes, it is a one year service agreement. Obviously something to consider and a potential deal breaker in your situation. Â Their boxes start at $100, FWIW. Good if you don't need to record or don't have HD programming.
October 25, 200717 yr Author Yeah, I don't have either of those. I think I did see it as cheaper, or at least thought about buying one used. The one year agreement was the big killer. I just managed to convince my cheapskate fiancee that DVR was a great idea and to try it for one month. :shifty
October 25, 200717 yr Wow, your woman had a hard time getting down with it? Alexis is a total TiVo hog. My box is filled to the brim with a ton of her crap shows.
October 25, 200717 yr If what I said is confusing, I meant that the most basic TiVo starts at 100 bucks. It is only capable of recording SD programming. So if you don't record HD, then that is the one you should get. I never meant it to read that you need multiple boxes. Sorry for the confusion.
October 25, 200717 yr Yeah, I don't have either of those. I think I did see it as cheaper, or at least thought about buying one used. The one year agreement was the big killer. I just managed to convince my cheapskate fiancee that DVR was a great idea and to try it for one month. :shifty Nice agreement. After a month, she won't be able to remember how she was able to watch TV wthout a DVR. My parents were big skeptics about the whole HD/DVR thing. I told them to "try it for a month." They now use it more than I do.
October 26, 200717 yr Author Yeah, she is just pretty cheap, even for stuff that she wants. But I'm convinced one month will hook her in. Never having to flip through the channels is going to be great. Â As for the box: I have a digital cable box now, but it isn't the box that has DVR access. I pay 14 dollars more and pick up the DVR box, thereby giving me what you have penguino.
November 1, 200717 yr Its not that great, but does its job. Not alot of storage for hd shows, you can record 2 shows at once but not series pass like tivo you have to set record this show this time and day. You can record the series pass. You just go to the show's info, select the red record circle, then put "create series recording." I have two Comcast DVR's in my house, its not as pretty as Tivo, but as said before it gets the job done. As long as you don't record too much HD, you should be fine with the storage space.
November 1, 200717 yr Tivo, in my opinion is over-rated, you get everything you need with a DVR box from Comcast, Series recordings, storage space is ample(i dont know what some of you are talking about), granted HD space isnt that great (about 20 hours) but it does everything you need out of a DVR.
November 6, 200717 yr I f***ing hate comcast. My HD-DVR works in the fact that i can watch recorded shows but anything live doesnt work. 2nd time this has happend and you know what they say? "nothing we can do well send someone out but we cant give you any compensation".. Direct TV is sounding better and better
November 7, 200717 yr I'm about 5-7 years away from getting HD, so no worries there. I'd cut that number by 75%. Book it.
