Garland traded for O. Cabrera

Featured Replies

Probably means they're out of the running for Bedard. Give those 'spects to Florida.

Do the Angels have the best rotation in the AL?

Lackey

Escobar

Garland

Weaver

Saunders

Pretty delicious.

Garland is in his prime and has a better tjan league average ERA and is going to a friendlier park for pitchers. Cabrera is solid, but Kenny Williams to me keeps proving he isn't that good of a GM. I'd be stunned if this is really the best deal that was out there for such a pitching starved league.

Kenny Williams is a terrible GM.

Garland isn't all that good, he's got a tasty 2/1 K/BB ratio. But still, many people have a higher opinion of him than I do, so I think they could've gotten more.

Garland hits free agency next year, is 28, and coming off a season of 208 IP and a 112 ERA+. That is a very valuable player.

Williams should have shopped him for prospects. Their farm sucks.

I guess this feeds Williams' mind that the White Sox will somehow be contenders next year in a division that features the Indians and Tigers.

Supposed Uribe is going to play second

Possible, but here in Chicago the word is Williams will look to deal him. They did get him to take a slight pay cut. Aside from the occassional dumb play here or there, he is a solid defensive player and 20 HRs at SS isn't bad either.

Seems that the Angels may also be targeting Tejada with their surplus arms.

And a nasty Twins pitching staff whose only going to get substantially better

I'm really not positive what this trade really does for either team. I thought the Angels were pretty solid as far as pitching goes so unless their prospects are ready this seems pointless.

Does this trade have anything to do w/ Brandon Wood? Isn't he at 3rd now thought?

I would guess his position is tentative. His move to 3rd wasn't due to lack of SS ability, but he was being blocked at SS by Cabrera, Aybar, and Izturis, while Dallas Macpherson has been a hole at 3rd base so far in his career. Most Angels fans seemto think that he'll be in the mix for the SS job but may start the year at AAA for some more polish.
