January 25, 200818 yr At what point do you step in? If you are at a bar, completely sober, and you see an obviously drunk guy screaming the worst possible curses at a girl, laughing, getting in her face, the girl is saying nothing but looks like she is on the verge of tears...is it your business to step in? Do you wait until the guy touches her? Mind your own business and just ignore it? Do you get a bartender/employee involved? What if they (the employees) had already been over there to say something, and the guy just wouldn't stop? What do you do?

I'd ask her if he's presently a problem or if she'd like to leave. Obviously he'd probably start in on you at that point, but then things will probably end up progressing... I'm too chivalrous to watch any girl be put down like that... I've never let it happen, and never will, and God help the guy I see put his hands on a girl, I don't care if it's a professional football linebacker, it ain't happening

I would probably tell the bartender.

January 25, 200818 yr I'd ask the bartender to get the guy out of there. I'm going to avoid getting between them as much as I can but I can only take so much before I step in.
January 26, 200818 yr Not to ruffle all the testosterone in here but, why doesn't the girl grow some balls and either move or tell this guy to leave her alone and then move somewhere else? Tell the bartender to call the police. Wouldn't you think it odd if this was a guy who was visually upset and girls posted these same replies? Why does the guy always have to come to the rescue? We're not that helpless. I'm gonna get slammed for this, I know it.

Im absolutely fine with all that, it'd be a great display to see a girl stand up for herself like that.... but in this hypothetical, the girl is saying nothing and on the verge of tears... I'm usually one to defend those that can't defend themselves... this girl apparently isn't in an emotional state to defend herself for whatever reason (not my business) Regardless, I couldn't stand idly by... it's not my character, I'm too chivalrous...

I would initially tell the staff, owner whoever is there. Being only a small fella I rather avoid the confrontation, but make others aware. Things continue to go bad then I will make a point to say something and see what happens.

I can't just sit there and watch.
January 26, 200818 yr If it's something that lasts for more than five minutes i'll step in. You can always call the staff to help, but your chances of getting laid are much better if you step in and kick his ass yourself.

Good girl is put upon by some bad people and waits to be rescued by the handsome prince. But, in the real world, that almost never happens. And what I find even more heinous is girls actually believe this will happen. Girls are taught (either consciously or subsconsciously) to take whatever abuse is heaped out and wait for someone to help them because that's the 'womanly' thing to do. Look at the number of battered women who stay. Aren't they more afraid of the next beating than leaving the lout? Me- I wouldn't stick around. I'm outta there and long gone before the bastard wakes up. It's such a shame we don't teach our sisters and daughters to become self-reliant. We should.

I can't control what other people think, but the lead-up to this hypothetical question doesn't matter. I can't sit there and think "This'll teach her to be self-reliant" or "I'll just wait till he finally hits her" whatever the reason, if somebody (guy or girl) is taking undue crap from someone, it shouldn't just be one person standing up to make the bullying offenser knock it off... more people should... but don't be mistaken, I'll be the first one up. In terms of battered women, I don't have any sort of experience with that fortunately, and I'm not making a joke. But yes, there are people who feel that leaving their boyfriend would be worse, why, I don't know. For what it's worth, my dad and I have made my sister self-reliant, and she's pretty kicked the crap out of people who overstep boundaries before...
