October 24, 200322 yr It's a shame we have to read this in the New York papers while LeBatard, Miller, et al are busy with backhanded compliments and word play. Thought you all might enjoy this. TIRED YANKS HEAD HOME By Kevin Kernan, New York Post October 24, 2003 -- MIAMI - Don't fool yourself into thinking this was a case where injuries were the difference. Sure, they hurt, but that's not the only problem. The bottom line is that these Marlins are a much better team than the Yankees right now and their 6-4 beating of the Bombers last night at Pro Player Stadium was proof of that. The Marlins have more energy, more spirit and more talent. Some Yankees have taken the attitude through this World Series that it's almost a chore. The Marlins, meanwhile, have enjoyed the ride, narrowed their focus and played with the kind of emotion the Yankees used to take to the ballpark. "They've come up big when they've had to," said Derek Jeter, one of the few Yankees to come up big last night with three hits. "When certain guys aren't in the lineup, other guys have to step it up." Bernie Williams, who came up a few feet short of a game-tying home run in the ninth, noted of the Marlins, "They're young, they don't get intimidated, they're thriving on a lot of emotion right now." Even the high school sports reporter looks like a petifile While I agree with your sentiment, our local reporters, columnists and editors or neither retarded nor mentally ill. They are agenda-based, and that agenda has been to drive the Marlins out of town. What has been terrific about this season is the emancipation of Marlins fans from under the yoke of the media. All of a sudden people could admit they loved baseball and the Marlins too. Short of winning the World Series the best thing about this season has been watching the fans finally coming out. 400,000 fans in six games is phenomenal in any city, anywhere, but we did here in Miami. Go Fish !
