March 5, 200818 yr I am heading up to Ft Myers to catch the Marlins @ the Red Sox on Saturday. I didn't realize this at first but it is a split squad game for the Marlins. Anyone know who I can expect to see play in that game and also what is the status of Hanley and Maybin? Also, is anyone making it up there for the game as well? Thanks

Thanks Hopefully, after the dissing the Red Sox dumped on South Florida earlier this week we can reciprocate. How about Fredi and Carlos stay home and send Dean Treanor to manage a group of non-roster invitee minor leaguers? That would be my suggestion. I've spoken to maybe 20 South Florida Red Sox fans at least half if not more were there (it's amazing how many South Florida lawyers are from or went to school in Boston) and to a person they were insulted and upset with the B team the Red Sox sent over when they knew it was going to be a sell-out, for what is for many of them the only time they'll see their favorite, and World Championship, team this season. The only ones who weren't pissed were the ones who couldn't get out of work or were too late buying tickets and said "thank god" after they saw who showed up. But then again, when it comes to dumping on South Florida, no one takes a back seat to John "Oh I'll build that stadium all by myself" Henry. COHIBAjared, my apologies for the rant, it wasn't pointed at you. :notworthy
March 5, 200818 yr Here's what Fredi says: "Thursday maybe, and definitely by Friday," manager Fredi Gonzalez said when asked about Maybin's return.

Personally, I didn't take it as a dissing. They had 2 games to play and the stars (for the most part) stayed there instead of taking the long bus ride over here for maybe 3 ABs. I always ask those fans if they have ever made the trip to Ft Meyers to watch their beloved World Champions. The answer is almost always no. But our opinions on John Henry are about the same. And I used to really like this guy. Remember the West Palm Beach Tropics??? Ooops. Showing my age again.

And stopping off at my fav BBQ place on the way home. I can taste the cole slaw now. Next week end it is off to DodgerTown. Gotta grab a couple Dodger Dogs before they are gone. This is turning pretty much food themed. LOL
March 8, 200818 yr I've realized now after traveling to so many different parks that EVERY team is the same. If the distance between parks is significant, none of the notable starters will make the trip. So far on my Spring Training road trip, not a single "road" team has brought their "A-team." The only exception were the Yankees, but the distance between Tampa and Dunedin is less than it is between Ft. Lauderdale and Jupiter, plus the Yankees had a "road" game in Kissimmee the day before so most of the regulars did not make that trip meaning they would play in Dunedin the next day. For heaven's sake, the Mets brought "scrubs" to Vero last Sunday to play the Dodgers. Veterans don't make those bus trips if they don't need to.

I was watching the ESPN broadcast of the Mets vs. Indians today, and I must admit, this is probably the worst lineup I've ever witnessed for any game ( and i've been to A LOT of Spring Training games that have featured crap players, but this takes the cake.) 1.Ezequiel Carrera LF 2.Anderson Hernandez SS 3.Angel Pagan CF 4.Olmedo Saenz DH 5.Raul Casanova C 6.Fernando Martinez RF 7.Robinson Cancel 1B 8.Dan Murphy 3B 9.Argenis Reyes 2B I mean come on...none of these guys are gonna crack the 40 man roster on opening day. And since it was a "split squad" game, they didn't have to adhere to Major League Baseball's new rule where you have to have 4 players from your regular starting lineup (or something like that)

And why should an established starter make a long bus trip just for maybe 3 ABs? I don't blame them. But expected to make this trip to Ft Meyers will be Hanley, Jeremy, Cameron, The Amazing, Cody, Coghlan, Castillo, McPherson, with Gaby Hernandez as our starter. Hanley will be our lead off hitter against the guy he was traded for, Josh.
March 8, 200818 yr I wouldn't have said a word were it not what local Red Sox fans said to me, people who paid big money to see the World Champs the one time they were nearby (and for fans who are normally in downtown Miami, Jupiter does not really qualify as nearby. I do think that as World Champions they as an organization have to understand what they mean to their fans - you know their vaulted "Red Sox Nation" - and that as World Champs they aren't just another team in the spring of 2008. They aren't the New mets who will play here many times this season, they aren't the Cleveland Indians or Los Angeles Angels. With the glory comes responsibility, it's the same way in life whether you're a shop foreman or the lead on a litigation team, head groundskeeper on a golf course or the head of a cardiac wing in a major hospital. So I understand why friends who usually don't get bothered by stuff like this were. personally it's the Red Sox, I divorce myself from them fifteen years ago but I agree with friends who were miffed that there wasn't at least the semblance of some recognition for the many Red Sox fans in South Florida knowing full well that was sold out to the rafters with THEIR fans.
