Report says Sox will interview Randolph

THE TEAM CANDIDATES THE SKINNY

White Sox

Manager

C.Gaston

O.Guillen

W.Randolph

T. Francona

S.Perlozzo

W.Backman

B.Bell Oct. 23 - Cito Gaston is emerging as the front-runner for the White Sox manager's job, although Ozzie Guillen will interview after the World Series. But a new name has surfaced, as well: The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Sox plan to speak with Yankees third-base coach Willie Randolph after the World Series, too.

However, the paper indicates Gaston is the clear favorite. GM Kenny Williams is said to favor the former Blue Jays' manager, for whom he played in Toronto, while Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf is said to prefer Guillen.

In case neither is offered (or accepts) the job, the team has other candidates, including Buddy Bell, Terry Francona, Nick Leyva, Wally Backman and, possibly, Orioles coach Sam Perlozzo.

WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY

Jose Cruz Jr.

Giants

? Oct. 23 - The Giants declined to pick up Cruz's $4 million option for next season and will instead pay him a $300,000 buyout and allow him to become a free agent. The San Francisco Chronicle reports the team isn't expected to try to bring him back at a lesser salary. Though Cruz performed admirably in right field, registering 18 outfield assists, he was dismal at the plate, batting just .250 with 20 home runs and 68 RBI.

WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY

Vladimir Guerrero

Expos

Yankees Oct. 22 - One of the hottest rumors at the July trading deadline had the Yankees making a serious run at getting Guerrero from the Expos. Now that the right-fielder is eligible for free agency, the Yanks' interest ought to be rekindled. The New York Post on Wednesday quoted a "friend of Guerrero's" as saying, "What it comes down to is he wants to win, and that's a priority in New York."

Right field has been a weak link for the Yankees all season, with Karim Garcia, David Dellucci and Juan Rivera platooning at the position after Raul Mondesi was traded to Arizona.

WHO INTERESTED THE SKINNY

Kazuo Matsui

Seibu Lions

Orioles

Dodgers?

Mariners?

Mets?

Angels? Oct. 22 - Add the Orioles, who lost out to New York on Hideki Matsui last offseason, to the list of teams expected to pursue "Little Matsui" in free agency. "I'd say he's among the guys we're looking at," an Orioles official told the Baltimore Sun.

Matsui, considered the next big Japanese import, has decided to take a shot at playing in the U.S., telling the Seibu Lions he's going to test free agency in the U.S. The seven-time Japanese All-Star batted .305 with 33 homers and 84 RBIs this season.

I hope the rays are good soon, i know its central florida and im a south floridian, but theyre an intersting teem and i like um, with sheff and some other pickups it can be a good team, they have awsome pitching prospects, and an order with huff sheff and maybe more wouldnt be too bad, with pinella and few big free agent pickups or trades, they might be a year or two away from at least a winning season
