Puma
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer cites a KJR-AM report that Shaun Alexander has been told the Seahawks will release him today. The team hasn't confirmed the rumor, but it's basically been a foregone conclusion since the team acquired Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett through free agency. The move was likely delayed until Alexander could pass a physical. Cutting him will save Seattle almost $5 million under the salary cap
Dr Beinfest
Wow. I hope he goes somewhere else and proves them fools. So he had a slump season..
Puma
Wow. I hope he goes somewhere else and proves them fools. So he had a slump season..  That's one thing I don't like about football. You have an injury or an off year and you're considered worthless. Football players are only in the prime of their careers for like 4 or 5 years, which is why I enjoy baseball a lot more, being that I can watch players for a good 10+ years in their prime

yankeefan21
:o I'm sorry but Shaun Alexander is a stud HB and will be starting in the NFL next season. You all better hope he doesn't end up with the Jets. OR - imagine him running behind Denver's O Line......

OR - imagine him running behind Denver's O Line......  He needs a very good O-line (and good health) to be the Shaun Alexander of old... but unless he comes cheap, Denver has no reason to take him... he'll end up with the Jets, (I think) if he's willing to come cheap and they miss McFadden (which I see as happening)... Vikings definitely don't need him, Indy, Pats don't need him... the Ravens won't take him... he has a very narrow margin of coming back and being a starter
yankeefan21
he has a very narrow margin of coming back and being a starter Off the top of my head I would say at least these teams would be interested:Â Jets, Broncos, Texans, Panthers, Bengals [he can catch so imagine that!], Bucs, Falcons, and Lions. I think he would be an upgrade in Miami and Oakland as well.

I should have said " coming back and being successful as a starter... outside of the teams I mentioned... and Oakland is taking McFadden, so that's not an upgrade... and the guy they currently have, Fargas is just fine

The down side for Alexander is that he will be turning 31 in august and has averaged under 4 yards a carry the past two seasons. If the price is right, he is worth trying.  BTW I am not sold the raiders take McFadden. They have Fargas, Jordan, Rhodes and now a healthy Michael Bush. Despite injuries last year, they finished 6th in the league in rushing, while having one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. Obviously, McFadden looks to be a great player so you know Al Davis is interested. They would be foolish to pass up a Glen Dorsey, Sedrick Ellis, Chris Long or Vernon Gholston, IMO
MarlinFan10
Ouch, the NFL is harsh.

We'll see on saturday. I will not at all be upset if the jets have to take Chris Long or Vernon Gholston.
