My 360 Problem

Featured Replies

(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I wasn't sure if this should go here or off-topic, because this is a games section and.. yeah..)

So here's the thing. My 360 is working smooth and all that, I'm playing Rock Band (on the drums) getting ready to go into my solo career. It then gives me the message of being unable to read the disk. I think no problem, clean the disk, put it back in. Well, it still wouldn't read it. Next disk I put in, same thing. I notice there is a sound missing from the 360, and open the disk tray to see that my disk hadn't moved. The thing that spins the disks is not working it seems. It just happened at a random time and I was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem, and if there's a fix to it to please tell me. I've only had this 360 for 2 months or so (was a replacement for old one that got the Red Ring of Death) and I just think it's strange that this happened.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

- Mike

You should be able to return it for another one under the warranty

Do other games work?

It's not spinning the disks at all so, without trying to sound rude, how can they work?

(In shorter terms, no.)

Ahh, I didn't read that you DID try another disk.. you'll have to call MS and see what's up... just curious, do you stand your Xbox vertical or horizontal?

whenever my old 360 gave me a problem(i bought an elite system yesterday), i would literally unplug everything from the console including detaching the hard drive and let it sit for a few minutes, then i tried again...this worked for virtually every 360-related problem i had...hope that helps

Horizontally. When it was vertical it scratched my Guitar Hero 2 disk

No matter what people tell you, never stand your xbox vertically. Obviously you cant put it on the hard drive side, but it would be foolish to put it on the vent side too. They already used to have problems with overheating...

Yeah I know I realized that after what I mentioned in my previous post.

That and it unbalances a spinning disk and the disc spinner... so it can ruin both

My best suggestion would be to contact Microsoft. It should still be under warranty and they should fix it free.

I have my 360 vertically with angle brackets to prevent any swaying. Would it still get damaged?

The angle brackets prevent the "gears" from wobbling, it's best to keep it horizontal, but if you have it stable and vertical... it should be alright

Well they were built to be left horizontally, same with the PS2's nd all. Just make sure its well supported, yet still well ventilated. Going a lil off topic here, but dont ever let your xbox sit on carpet or leather. Wood and glass, with lots of open air, (god this sounds like a freakin pet) because overheating is a main cause for xbox's leading to crash. If you have no other option than something that absorbs lots of heat like carpet, I suggest looking into an intercooler.
