I looked around the boards but couldn't find it, so if I'm repeating something, I apologize. Apparently NL managers overwhelmingly favor Bobby Cox as NL Manager of the Year over Jack McKeon. In Sporting News' poll, Cox got 9.5 votes, while TJ got only 0.5. Look at this season, for example: Dusty Baker turned around the Cubs, Felipe Alou took over the Giants and won 100 games and Jack McKeon steered the upstart Marlins to the World Series. And who was named the Sporting News' N.L. Manager of the Year? That would be Mr. Cox, by a landslide in voting by the 16 N.L. managers. Cox received 9 1/2 votes to finish ahead of Alou (four votes), Baker and the Astros' Jimy Williams (one each). One manager split his vote between Cox and McKeon. "Coming from the other managers, this is really special," Cox says. "It really means something. I'm very proud of that. I'm probably as proud of that as anything I've ever done." Cox, 62, won the award for the second consecutive year and for a record sixth time after guiding a transformation of the Braves from the best pitching club to the best hitting club in the N.L. They won another division title-their 12th in a row-and an N.L.-best 101 games before losing to the Cubs in a five-game Division Series. "Another great job of managing, no matter how many changes the team makes," Baker wrote on his ballot. "Players seem to improve that come from other teams. He rarely gets the recognition as manager of the year (in media voting) because he always wins. The common denominator has to be him." No other manager has won the award more than three times. The group of three-time winners is a who's who of managers: Leo Durocher, Casey Stengel, Joe McCarthy, Walter Alston, Tony La Russa and Jim Leyland. October 28, 200322 yr Author no, it's not the official MOY thats determined by the media, but its still surprising that jack only got ONE HALF of one vote... maybe the managers are only looking at traditional on-field decisions, and not the intangibles jack brings to the team. jack is a very unorthodox sort of manager, that's for sure

October 28, 200322 yr I can believe it from a standpoint of just plain winning. braves won alot and thats because of good managing moves and players becomming better when they go there. i would choose mckeon overall, but i guess cox is the better manager for winning games minus winning a ring.
