August 11, 200817 yr David Ross DFA'd His line this year: .231/.381/.366 Pop is down this year, as is his ability to throw out attempted base stealers. He did slug .579 in 2006, a year in which he hit 21 home runs. I know that looks like a product of Great American Ballpark, but he slugged .489 on the road. This year he has only thrown out 29 % of basestealers, a step down from last year's 41%. I think the Marlins should take a chance on him. He has shown he has pop in the past, and he has a pretty good knack for getting on base. Heck, I'd take him over Paul Lo Duca or John Baker any day.
August 11, 200817 yr I agree he would be an improvement over Lo Duca, but not Baker. Baker just eems to be a pretty good hitting catcher, sure he can't throw out hitters to save his life but Matt Treanor comes into games and does that. I just don't believe we have a need for him.

Well, it's all about how healthy Treanor is. There is a ton of speculation about how LoDuca is the insurance policy for Treanor. I rather have Ross waiting in the wings than Ducs.

The upside of LoDuca is he's more versatile. He can play a passable LF and 1st base in addition to catching. So off the bench, he'd have more value then Ross. No reason to have a bench with 2 of the 3 right handed bats are strictly catchers. Plus, despite his poor season to date, I think I'd still rather have him as a pinch hitter late in a game then David Ross. He'll still give you a good AB and not strike out very often.
August 11, 200817 yr It is worth a shot. I'd much rather see Ross in a Marlins uniform than LoDuca if one of Baker/Treanor fall by the wayside.
August 11, 200817 yr Baker>Ross>Lo Duca>Treaner I'd like to pick him up... has not had a good season but it's worth the risk...

August 11, 200817 yr if we can get ross then pull the trigger, the marlins have been rumored to want him before the trade deadline. not to mention we'd be a badass team with two rosses in the lineup, LOL.
