NEW MARLINS STADIUM ANALYSIS...

Featured Replies

He would have minimal power at the Pro and it's not like all 162 games are here.

He has minimal power at Fenway!

He'd have little power at PPS.

You don't need more seats, Just like THe Phillies, The Marlins are going smaller instead of a huge 50,000 . I'd take comfort over Quantity anyday plus it means more parking spaces which could fix the problem of fans coming in late for games because of Traffic outside.

50,000 is just a waste of space, granted. But 42,000-43,000 would be considered more viable in terms of space and ticket-availability. Add to that the suites, concesion stands, and parking (things that the team does not receive much profit from, or nothing at all right now) and the FO would be making a pretty good amount which would alleviate any cost increase. 38,000 is a joke... specially if you want to profit from afns going to the games.

I still rather have a stadium between 41,000 to 45,000. But i guess thats the reason it will only cost 325 MM more seats would make it more expensive. It could also be because there wont be anymore space to make more seats.

The Red Sox are complaining because they sell-out just about every night, and have the most loyal fans in the game.

WE have trouble getting 20K to a game. 38,000 is not a ridiculously small number at all, at least for this franchise.

So, you're saying the Marlins shouldn't try to build a loyal fan base that can sell-out a 45,000 seat stadium on a consistent basis?

i had posted the same thoughts on another thread. the reason this stadium costs so much is due to the retractable roof.

but i still don't like the fact that it'd be the 2nd smallest ballpark in baseball (2nd to fenway).

Yes, I understand the difference is the retractable roof. That's why I only included in my last part of the analysis those retractable-roof stadiums built since 1998. The thing is that not only this park is going to be the 2nd-fewest in capacity, but that is going to be so in the year 2007, when your fan base (if the team remains competitive) is supposed to have increased in relation to 2004. 38,000 seats are not enough right now, neither they are going to be 3 or 4 years down the road. Simple as that... i agree with you 100%. another 5000 seats would be nice. percentage-wise, its a quite a large jump from 38,000.

i'd also like to add that retractable roof stadiums cost a buttload. i'm not exactly sure how the accounting went for minute maid park, but it's definitely the exception in this case.

I was just wondering, why the heck are people discussing the need for a spacious outfield, a power lefty, etc when the point of discussion is the stupidity of having 38,000 seats only? :whistle

So, you're saying the Marlins shouldn't try to build a loyal fan base that can sell-out a 45,000 seat stadium on a consistent basis? I'm saying that we haven't quite had 100+ years to build up an extreamely loyal fan base.

Boston could lose 100 games and still draw 2.5 Million.

We could win 100 and not draw 2.5 million.

Gotta crawl before you walk, my friend.

I think the $325 is supposed to include the price of the land, unless Miami provides it free of charge which I doubt it. Most ballparks with retractable roofs and a seat capacity between 42,000 and 45,000 are in the range of $400 million, and that figure includes cost overrruns. It would probably be more expensive with 45,000 seats instead of 38,000, but that can be done if you maintain a good fan base. And you have to plan for the future. If the team remains competitive for the next 3 or 4 years, who says there are not going to be more Marlins fans than right now? Then what are you going to do with a stadium the size of an Eco?
