April 15, 200917 yr WHy don't the Marlins just hire you NNY? Because he's a weirdo and Samson is enough.
April 16, 200917 yr Author The way they calculate it is similar to the +/- . They use an in-depth play-by-play data system in which they compare the results of every play to the average expected result and assign values to it, and then they convert it to runs using a liner weights type of system. It's really complicated, but it seems to be legit. And yeah, the fact that they have MiLB is really incredible. If you can find a place that actually goes indepth about it, I'd appreciate it. Because as of now it's still giving different results than what other metrics are saying. Not that that means it's wrong, cuz at least these make sense.
April 16, 200917 yr There is an article in the back of the 2009 Baseball Prospectus book bout how they calculate it. The only thing I can suggest is e ither buy it (and I should add it is well worth the money), or go to your local Barnes&Noble and flip to the back and look for the article by Clay Davenport.
