December 20, 200817 yr Apparently the Cubs are looking into trading him. He might be worth a look if he could be had for cheap. He fits right into the new look that Beinfest is trying to create. Could be one of those change of scenario situations
December 20, 200817 yr Author We already have Maybin. I'm thinking more in the line of 4th OF, defensive replacement, pinch runner
December 20, 200817 yr What for? Same thing with Jeremy Hermida, WHAT FOR? Because of upside. Five tool potential, and can possibly be had for bean dip? I'd take a chance. We have raped the Cubs in the past, and they are obvious trade partners, let's do it if it's even possible.

December 20, 200817 yr Author What for? Yeah you're right, we have that monster Hermida in right and Cody "I'm eventually going to come back down to earth" Ross. My bad, thanks for that well thought out statement, it reminded me how jacked we are in the OF

You can put that testimonial in your sig.
December 20, 200817 yr But you know what this team needs, come to think of it. A kid with a .336 OPS in the PCL last season and a .673 OPS in the majors. Yeah, that will shore us up.
December 20, 200817 yr they'd want someone good in return for him since he's one of their top prospects. i don't really see the point of acquiring him since we have two young outfielders already with maybin and hermida who have proven themselves more than pie
December 20, 200817 yr From what I've heard, he has all of the tools but no brains. He's ultra-talented but not too bright.

Now, would you like to give me an actual reason as why to lose something in a trade for Pie and then start him over Hermida and Cody? My thought being, like I said in my first post, was if he could be had for cheap it could be something to consider. Based on the fact that he is a five-tool player, that has no even come close to living up to his potential. The have an abundance of outfielders and might be willing to let him go for very little. Perhaps in a change of scenery, Pie could live up to his potential. We know Beinfest is looking for better defense and Pie fits that mold. I just don't feel comfortable going into the season with Ross as a starting OF'er. The guy played well last year, but I don't see him as the answer

Why don't you CAREFULLY read someone's post before blindly refuting their arguement
December 20, 200817 yr Pie's career minor league line is .299/.353/.470 and he never hit more than 15 HRs at any level. That's minus one tool... He Ks way more than he walks... 206-532, there goes another tool.... So, now we're left with... he can probably hit for average... play defense and be fast...
December 20, 200817 yr At what point did I say trading something useful. Why don't you CAREFULLY read someone's post before blindly refuting their arguement You have to give up talent to get it... why would the Cubs just "give up" a 23 year old OFer with the kind of upside you're championing? They wouldn't... they'd expect something(s) useful in return

I just don't feel comfortable going into the season with Ross as a starting OF'er. The guy played well last year, but I don't see him as the answer Everything you said could be said about Jeremy Hermida, who you seem to have given up on. Except that Hermida has shown more potential and more actual skill than Pie. Why trade for something we have? As for Ross, I have every confidence that he'll do fine next year. That's not because he played well last year, but because he played well since we acquired him in 2006, to a .820 OPS. While there are some question marks in our OF (Will Maybin do well? Can Ross keep up the play he's been doing for 3 years now? Will Hermida finally come out?), replacing those with an even bigger question mark is just a terrible idea.

Jeremy Hermida's minor league line .284/.397/.436 He K's more than he walks So now we're left with...not that fast and can't really play defense Should we give up on him

Just because you want something to be cheap doesn't make it cheap.

That tool is very far there. He's also got fine speed, has good glove control, and a very good arm.

December 20, 200817 yr Everyone loves a piece of pie. The Marlins should do the trade for this reason. They can attract the not insubstantial pie lovin' segment of baseball fandom to the stadium.
