Bob, friend. You yourself have said that runners run on pitchers, not the catcher. You yourself claimed that you saw some in the dugout calling the game for Baker before. Regardless, I don't think Baker called for miller to throw only balls. Baker could have called whatever he wanted, none of it would have mattered. What happened last night had ZERO to do with Baker.

I don't know what your problem is with Baker. You are going against your own baseball theories just to go at him. When he does something well, it's the pitchers and the bench coach. When something goes wrong, it's all on Baker.

Oh, and those wild pitches were pathetic. Not on him at all.

The first one is only partially true. The second is open. Baker hasn't been looking to the dugout as much as in the past.

Baker called a bad game. Never said he was calling for balls. But when you see a pitcher dosen't have control on a certain pitch why keep calling for it? Especially ones that end up in the dirt and you can't keep them in front of you. And a catcher does have some control on throws to keep runners honest. Signal a throw to the base if the pitcher isn't watching. Go out to the mound and reming him to keep an eye on the runners. When a catcher goes to the mound he isn't talking about which restaurant they are going to later.

Name a pitch that Miller had control of? His fastball? No. Curveball? No. Changeup? No. Is Baker supposed to invent a pitch for Miller to throw with control? It's not even as if both wild pitches were from the same pitch type. The first was a fastball and the second was a changeup.

I think it was the changeup that kept going in the dirt. Don't exactly remember. But whatever. Baker looked like he was reverting back to his last year's defense. Not able to keep anything in front of him. And he was doing nothing to help keep the runners in check. He played an all around bad game. Plain and simple. Was Miller bad? Most definetly. But Baker was my choice on this one. And I knew because he is a board fav it would bring this type of response. But I do prefer to think it was more of a snowball effect for him. Or the quicksand effect. Whatever you want to call it. He has shown he can be effective back there, but in no way was he in that game. It just seemed like everything was going bad, and he let it get to him. But then I put alot more pressure on a catcher being a defensive plus than most around here.

"But he has a bat!!" Bah. Without checking the numbers I would think his bat really only shines when there is someone on base in front of him. Namely a speedster. He's patient, I'll give him that. But when pitchers and defenses don't have to worry about that guy on base running wild, the pitchers are more able to pitch to his weaknesses. I'll let the stat guys go check that theory out. Start with this year's small sample size and then go back to last year's ML service.

And keep in mind. It's only an opinion. Means nothing. Just like everyone elses.

For some reason, you just made it seem like hitting with men on base is...a bad thing?

Also...it doesn't help that Marlin pitchers can't hold a runner to save their lives. Did you happen to catch Paulino last game? He struggled, as well. Sometimes it's not the catchers' fault.

Seeing as you are responding in a mature way, I will respond.

Didn't mean for it to sound like that. I'm saying Baker can hit the fastball. Which is what he's seeing with a speesdster on base. Take that away and he is below average as a hitter. Just from what I have watched. To me, that means when pitchers are actually able to pitch to him he fails. Not saying he dosen't still work the count, which IMO is a very good thing, saying he is just another out. Stat guys look it up and see how close I am.

Either Rab has me confused with someone else, or I didn't convey my thoughts correctly in some other post. Could be either way. So I will try again. When there is a man on base it is up to the pitcher AND catcher to hold that guy. Once the pitcher starts his wind up, it is on the pitcher. When that ball crosses the plate, it's on the catcher. Which is why I like to see my catcher throw behind runners. It says WE haven't forgotten you.

Now, IMO, Baker resorted back to his last year's defense in that game. He called a bad game, he couldn't block anything in the dirt, and he failed to hold runners. But I demand alot from a guy that chose to play a position that is so in control of a game.

I'm starting to like Baker. But don't push him on me.

Well, I can't really say much now b/c he had his worst defensive inning of the year (imo) a couple of innings ago, missing a K, and then committing a passed ball.

I, honestly, don't think he's terrible, though.

Then again...we once had Miguel Olivo. Mr. Passball, himself. Can't get much worse...
