April 21, 200917 yr What happen on Cameron Maybin? He still had no RBI in this season. When will he wake up, guys? It's OK cause he has POTENTIAL. Isn't Andrew Miller your favorite Marlins player? Yes but I think being rushed killed his potential. A few starts in the Minors wouldn't hurt at this point. But still, how can you get on Maybin with that sardonic tone, when he has higher upside, when your favorite player is Miller. Miller got his shot last year, Maybin's been up here for two weeks.
April 21, 200917 yr I pray for a win when Miller pitches, never expect it. His control issues concern me-- it seems like he's all over the place quite often. It makes me wonder, "This is what we traded Cabrera for?". Anyway, the offense didn't look so great either; however the Pirates pitching staff deserves credit for this. Meh, get 'em tomorrow.

To me it's not about my favorite player. It's about putting together the very best line up in each game, even if they "don't count". At this point, Maybin is not the best as a starter. He's not Dan Uggla or Hanley Ramirez who can get away with starting cold. I know this site is in love with him but benching him a couple of times can't hurt when he's getting mighty close to hitting below .200. Just my opinion. Of course, some people on here (NOT YOU) still think Hermida will someday be a superstar.
April 21, 200917 yr great...now we wont make the playoffs...just GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT I hope you are just kidding. Well of course Holly....jeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......lol

The thing is that Maybin is extremely important to this franchise and that he must get AB at against ML pitching. The minors would be of no used to him, because he's already learned to hit there. He needs to learn pitch recognition up here.

The unconditional love for Maybin around here is a little out of whack, IMO, especially when compared to the knee-jerk reactions other young players on the roster receive. That being said, the defense he brings, combined with his talent/upside, should and will get him a good long look and the benefit of many doubts. Also, who do we start over him, Amezaga?

Also, who do we start over him, Amezaga? exactly, all are very great points. The board loves him because of the talent he possesses, the hype that Maybin was given as I believe the #7 overall prospect in all of baseball. He was touted as a great defender, which he is, as a very fast player, which he does possess great speed, and that he may not be the best contact guy, but he makes up with it with his power. We saw late in his minors stint last year that he cut down the K's, and that he was beginning to hit for some pop as well as get into a groove. Maybin strikes me as one of those streaky hitters, thus his .500 BA at the end of last season in the majors. I feel that once Maybin gets going, he won't be stopped. I reserve hope for him, a lot of hope, and believe in the hype about Maybin. Not a 13 game bad start can stop my enthusiasm :cool

April 21, 200917 yr Maybin is starting to remind me more and more of Preston Wilson. Um, why? Wilson was more of a power-hitter, who averaged between 25-35 HRs a season. Wilson was also pretty slow on the bases.

He was a great contact hitter during that span, getting singles in nearly every at bat, messing with the pitcher's mind on the bases. He needs to stop thinking, and just get back to basics. Yes i use that phrase a lot, but it is what you got to do when you are in a slump. Try running out a bunt his next AB, get a bloop single, that is usually how a player gets back to his old self, the little things.

April 21, 200917 yr Just my opinion. Of course, some people on here (NOT YOU) still think Hermida will someday be a superstar. Isn't Hermida leading the team in OBP? Didn't he just get two game winning hits and walk like 5 times in 3 games against the Nats. I hate this place.

April 21, 200917 yr Well I guess I picked a good game to miss. Miller drives me batty. What was his velo tonight? I think wiley has told him to ttone it down in hopes of getting control. Sanchez I expect a big game outta you tommorow. 7 solid!!! Also, top of the order hit the dang ball. 2 hits are you kidding me.

April 21, 200917 yr Velo was still way down 90.35 average FB velo according to PitchFX, and that's higher than it really was because it confuses some of his change ups with fast balls since they have similar movement so it's probably under 90.
April 21, 200917 yr 90, ugh I know he can throw much harder. The way he's pitching reminds me of olsen, average fastball and tons of changes. At least last game I saw him pitch. At least olsen had some control.

How do you figure? Do you think they are calling some of his fastball as change-ups? And why would the likelihood of the reverse not be similarly as high, namely that they call a [slower] changeup as a fastball, lowering his [recorded] average FB speed?
